We are approaching a year of quarantine, lock down, stress and anxiety related to Covid-19. Please do your part, wear a mask when out and about to protect yourself and others, social distance at every opportunity, stay home except for going out to work, or to get essential items and wash your hands. . The sooner we beat this, the sooner we go back to being able to do the things we love. Including going to work and supporting our clients in person. #prenatalclass #birthdoula #childbirtheducation #postpartumdoula #doula #pregnancy #pregnant #pregnancyannouncement #covid_19 #wearamask

When you get a vaginal exam in office and your doctor says I’m just going to do a little sweep and then does it. That is NOT consent. . When your doctor does a vaginal exam in labour and says we’re going to break your water while having their hand in there and then does it, is NOT consent. . When you doctor finishes with that and says to the nurse to start Pitocin and leaves and the nurse hangs the Pitocin. Is NOT consent. ... . These are situations I’ve seen on more than one occasion. As a doula I’ve had to turn to my client and say, this is what is happening, do you have any questions, are you okay with that? . A virtual doula and virtual prenatal classes can help you prepare for your birth. #prenatalclass #birthdoula #childbirtheducation #postpartumdoula #doula #consent #birth #pregnancy #pregnant #pregnancyannouncement #pregnanttoronto See more

Oxytocin is the love hormone and is released when you do skin to skin, chest feed baby, have an orgasm and it gets your uterus contracting. . Endorphins are the body’s natural relaxant and a pain killer as well. It also helps in the brain releasing oxytocin. . Prolactin is known as the mothering hormone and is released to support chestfeeding.... . Adrenaline is needed in pushing to give your body the energy to push baby out. But relaxation is needed to suppress adrenaline until it’s needed to push and keep you energized until baby’s had their first feed. . Taking a virtual prenatal class can help teach you more about what you need to have a safe and supported birth. #prenatalclass #birthdoula #childbirtheducation #postpartumdoula #doula #pregnancy #pregnancyannouncement #pregnant #pregnanttoronto See more

People often think that Doulas only support unmedicated birth. However that isn’t true. As a doula of over 14 years I have no biases toward various ways to birth. My only goal for birth is that you feel Informed, Educated, Supported, Loved and for you to birth your way, whatever that looks like for you! #birth #pregnancy #pregnant #newbaby #birthing #toronto

This week The Doulas explore recent conversations surrounding the word "Doula". Have the negative origins of the word been watered down by all the good that modern doulas do or have we finally realized that this culturally appropriated word needs to be put to rest so we can embrace a term that truly shows what we are and how we support parents through pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period.

This year it seems like there wouldn’t be much to be thankful for but maybe this year is the best time to think hard about what we are thankful for. . This year I am thankful for my family. My kids are my light and keep me laughing when everything is failing And my mum and my uncle who have been a welcome support when I have basically been struggling to make ends meet during this pandemic .... My friend’s Steph and Suz who check in and keep me moving forward or rather drag me forward when I really just want to live in my deep whole of darkness. . For myself for being stronger than I realize and more persistent than I give myself credit for. . For all the people I have met this year that have given me energy, and lit a fire under my butt to do something I’m terrified to do but I’m doing it anyway. . Find the things that you can be thankful for this year! And share it! See more
