February 20 is World Day of Social Justice. The theme chosen by the UN for this year is A Call for Social Justice in the Digital Economy . Many of us around the world have had to transition to working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While this comes with many benefits such as flexibility and increased accessibility the UN points out that it also comes with a number of challenges. It is important to acknowledge that moving to a predominantly digital economy has diff...erent impacts depending where in the world one lives, their SES, gender, abilities/disabilities and other factors. . The UN points out the [COVID-19] crisis has also laid bare and exacerbated the growing digital divide within, between and across developed and developing countries, particularly in terms of the availability, affordability and use of information ICTs and access to the internet, deepening existing inequalities. . On this day of social justice let’s recognize that not everyone has the same access to electronic devices and platforms or the information and ability required to utilize them. . . . #WorldDayofSocialJustice #SocialJustice #Equality #Inclusivity #DigitalEconomy #UnitedNations #WorldDayofSocialJustice2021 See more

It is an understatement to say that healthcare workers are dealing with a lot right now. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic healthcare workers have been sacrificing their physical and mental health in order to help their patients and continue to make a living. Dr. Saunia Ahmad, Psychologist and Clinical Director at the Toronto Psychology Clinic, has been providing psychotherapy to healthcare workers who are facing huge challenges during these difficult times. One m...ajor stressor healthcare workers are facing right now is having to explain to their family members the need to continue limiting physical contact to keep them safe while they wait to be vaccinated. Dr. Ahmad speaks with Maria Sarrouh at the Toronto Star about these challenges and what healthcare workers can do to navigate these conversations in a healthy and loving way. https://www.thestar.com//got-a-covid-19-vaccine-act-like-y #COVID19 #HealthCareWorkers #MentalHealth #TorontoPsychologyClinic #PhysicalDistance #Vaccine #TorontoStar

...The Black experience in Canada was shaped by slavery, anti-Black policies, and racist practices. That means that the accomplishments and contributions we celebrate during Black History Month were achieved despite the challenges of anti-Black racism, not because of the absence of it (The Kojo Institute, 2021). Canadians need to face the uncomfortable truth that our nation was complicit in slavery. To learn more visit The KOJO Institute’s recent blog post about Canada’s ro...le in slavery and anti-black racism. This article raises critical points about how and why Canadians must do more than learn about and celebrate the accomplishments of Black Canadians during Black History Month. We must go deeper into our history, along with celebrating Back Canadians’ success we must educate ourselves on the painful history of anti-Black racism in Canada and acknowledge the many ways that anti-Black racism continues to exist in our societies today. https://kojoinstitute.com/re-imagining-black-history-month/ #BlackHistoryMonth #TheKojoInstitute #BHM2021 #CanadianBlackHistory

This week is all about raising awareness about eating disorders. Eating disorders are quite misunderstood in our society and are often associated with undeserved feelings of shame and guilt. Nobody chooses to have an eating disorder, it is a mental illness like any other. A common misconception is that only females who are underweight have an eating disorder. The truth is that eating disorders do not discriminate, they impact people of all genders, ages, physical abilities, ...cultures, ethnicities, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status’, etc. Eating disorders do not only impact someone's body and weight, they have both physical and mental health consequences. While eating disorders are a complex illness, recovery is possible. Many people have recovered from an eating disorder and lead happy and healthy lives. If you or someone you know is coping with an eating disorder, you are not alone. Swipe on the above post for resources that may be beneficial to you or your loved one coping with an eating disorder. #TalkingSavesLives #EatingDisorderAwareness #NEDIC #EatingDisorderAwarenessWeek #EDAW2021 #WhatHappenedWhileWeWaited #Psychology #Therapy #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalIllnessAwareness #Support #Therapists #TorontoPsychology #TorontoPsychologyClinic

It's Mental Illness Awareness Week. We want to raise awareness about the prevalence of mental illness among Canadians. We are all impacted by mental illness and no one should suffer alone. Help is available and mental illness is treatable. Too many Canadians are suffering in silence because of the stigma around mental illness. Reaching out for help is a strength, not a weakness. Let's increase our discussions about mental health and look out for one another. If you think a fr...iend, family member, or colleague is suffering please reach out to them. Ask them how you can support them. We need to be there for one another and we need to stop the stigma.
