We just received our first snowfall of the season a few days ago which only means there will be more furnace advice and home comfort tips coming your way. They are most likely located through a wall near the furnace.... What do they look like? They will most likely be white or black pipes, set in a curved shape. What should I do? Examine your pipes to see if anything is blocking the pipes, look for snow, leaves, shrubs, or dirt. It's also a good idea to shovel away from the air intake and exhaust pipes. Why is it important to keep your intake and exhaust pipes clear? If snow is blocking your intake vents, your system will be starved for the air it needs for combustion. Wow! The weather yesterday was insane. More than 200,000 houses/businesses were without power across Southern Ontario. By the way, is anyone missing anything from their backyard? We wanted to give you some tips on the next time you are affected by a power outage. 1. When the power is restored, check your circuit breakers first. Reset any that were tripped by the power outage.... 2. Wait at least 20 minutes after resetting the breakers before adjusting the thermostat for your HVAC system. The reason for doing this is that most modern heating and cooling systems have internal circuit breakers that will need time to reset. The breakers cannot reset if the thermostat is set to power on the system. The HVAC equipment should operate normally. If you have problems restarting the system or notice any new problems, please contact Total Aire Care and we will send a technician right over. Many times the problem is easy to remedy, but you may have a larger problem looming due to damage caused by the surge of electricity before or after the power outage.
