Happy Lunar New Year to those who celebrate! 2021 is the year of the White Metal Ox. The Ox is known for diligence, dependability, strength and determination. If you were born in 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, or 2009, you are an Ox! Unfortunately, if it is your year it is seen as unlucky. To help bring luck in 2021 white, silver, and aqua are lucky colours, 8 & 9 are the lucky numbers!

This new collection of white on whites (contrast is there to show the print) from Blank features a wide variety of designs. White on white designs bring a nice touch of design or texture without being a complete solid to any project.

You've seen him before. He's the soft-spoken guy painting happy clouds, mountains and trees in about twenty-six television minutes, using big housepainting-type brushes and cooing soothing "you can do its" to the audience. His Joy of Painting program is the most recognized, most watched TV art show in history. The artist - Bob Ross - a virtual cult-like figure among varying age groups all around the world, is about more than just painting, however. Guess How Much I Love You is a British children's book written by Sam McBratney and illustrated by Anita Jeram, published in 1994 and follows the story of two hares, Big Nutbrown Hare and Little Nutbrown Hare. These two hares feature in a sweet flannel collection from Clothworks!

Got a head start on my cutting today and drew out my game plan for the big assemble as I’m missing my All Things Quilting training sesh on Wednesday. The strips in order are sashing, quad colour border, second smaller black border, and binding with the corner stones! I’m getting a little fancy as I did a cutting boo boo that’s thankfully easily fixed with the additional smaller border. Why black? I was hesitant to add in a 6th fabric that wasn’t featured in any blocks and it adds much needed contrast. The teal and red, as different as they are in colour, read the same in monochrome. Plus it’s a very rich black that will help my blocks be the star.

Tonight’s All Things Quilting had us finish our last block! The technique was english paper piecing and I must say I quite enjoyed this one. Being a stitcher it was in my comfort zone while also learning a new skill win win! We hand basted our pieces and whip stitched together our hexie flowers. Last thing I need to do is sew my flower on to my background and I think I’ll do that by hand too, why not. Next week is sashing and borders!

For those that like mystery quilts, this year's Bonny K. Hunter mystery is called Grassy Creek, with colours inspired by Autumn. It's always fun being assigned a paint chip and running around the shop to see what fabrics we have that match. I'm always surprised to see just how much we have that can match, especially when the colours are so specific. We have curated different bundles, each with unique fabrics cut in long quarters measuring 10" x WOF. The picture here is one of the mega bundles that contain enough yardage for the main colours and a meter of the grey!

Created by celebrated English designer, Jade Mosinksi, Bee Kind reflects her passion for nature. A variety of mix and match, multi-directional bee and flower prints coordinate with the featured prints in a modern combination of hues.
