Trent-Temagami Colloquium: September 18-21, 2014 http://www.trenttemagami.ca/ All are invited!... This fall the 42nd Annual Trent Temagami Colloquium runs September 18th to 21st, 2014 at Camp Wanapitei in Temagami, Ontario. This annual event is sponsored by a number of academic programs at Trent and seeks to examine and experience our understanding of the land with a focus on the study of Canadian, environmental, and Indigenous issues. This unique event celebrates interdisciplinary, experiential learning. Everyone - faculty, staff, alumni and students - is invited! A special invitation is extended to all international students and scholars. Wanapitei has been selected primarily for the beauty and remoteness of its location. Away from the urbanized south, the Temagami country is rich in history and home to generations of Teme-Augama-Anishnabai. Each day, faculty and students will organize into small groups for guided hiking and canoe trips in the immediate region. Expeditions will be tailored to suit the skill level of participants. Instruction in canoeing will be offered to those indicating an interest. Each group will pack a lunch and eat on the land. Late afternoon and evening programs will include lectures, films, readings, square dancing, and informal discussion. Cost: $180 for students, and $205 for faculty/staff (includes transportation, food, activities and accommodation) To register: Registration forms can be found here and should be delivered to the Kawartha World Issues Centre, Environmental Science Building, Room B101, Trent University, PO Box 895, Peterborough, ON K9J 7A2. The deadline to register is Tuesday, September 16th, 2014. But space is limited and will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Register early! To bring: warm sleeping bags and clothes More details about the program are provided after registration.
Hi everyone, thanks for a great weekend! If you have any photos or footage from the trip and wouldn't mind sharing, I am putting together a short video to commemorate the 40th annual trip. You can contact me at [email protected]. Also, feel free to share your photos of the weekend via this page!
It looks as if rain is in our forecast -- please dress and pack accordingly with a raincoat, extra socks, and an extra pair of shoes. Also, as temperatures are dropping at night, be prepared with a toque and a heavy sweater. Don't forget a flashlight! See you all tomorrow at 8:30am.
Any last-minute questions about the trip? There will be a short meeting for those with questions this Tuesday, September 18th at noon in ESB 101.1 (KWIC/ERS Resource Centre). Come by and chat with us about transportation, packing, dietary concerns, and what to study up on for the square dance.
