At True North Homes we love doors. Doors can accent the room as well as have a purpose. It is almost like lighting being the jewelry in the space, doors can offer interest and a story. Each one of these doors was brought back into our Hotel Lux project to honour the establishment of the building in 1888. Over the years most of these tell tale signs of history were removed. These doors were found locally and they all have a story to tell in the surrounding counties of the Hotel Lux in Blyth. We have breathed new life into them for another hundred years of new stories. We are just finishing up a Heritage home main bath in the downtown. The renovation included updating a 1970's renovation to bring it back to where it may have been in the early 1900's. With Subway tile and soaker tub, the feel is true to the age of the house. The added amenity of glassed in shower is a modern necessity. The fixtures were kept in the old water pump style. There will be more before and afters to come. You have to see the floor tile in the zero threshold shower.

In February 2018 True North Homes purchased this building in Blyth Ontario and created a 3 Suite, luxury boutique Hotel. Hotel Lux opened for its first reservation October 13, 2018. Each room is styled after a theme that is familiar to Blyth, Ontario. Coming soon, we will be revealing the construction of an inclusive suite on the main level. The trend is to prepare for the future when doing a renovation in your house. Follow the reno and you will see design ideas and behind the wall preparations. We look forward to sharing with you. Here is the transferred patio door where the backsplash window is to where the dining room window was. To get perspective the window above the sink remained in the same position.

Increasing the cabinet space and kitchen size for this growing family was the goal. We transferred the much needed back yard access to the dining room window. We did not want to lose all of the natural light or cross breeze so we installed a functioning window as a backsplash. It's a unique detail that you can see from the front door and in the spring the window frames a beautiful magnolia tree blooms. My photo does not pay it justice.

Below is a before and after. The small window on the left is now the garden door. This house is an amazing example of utilizing the space that you have to function in the way you live now. The kitchen needed more cabinet space for this growing family. We extended the cabinets across the other patio door to the backyard and created this new exit from the dining area. Perfectly close to the kitchen and easy access for the barbecue and watching the kids play. See more posts for the kitchen transformation.

This client wanted to maximize their outdoor living by their pool. The landscaping needed to be re configured to maximize the use of the deck and re-supported. Lobo Landscape and True North Homes worked closely with our client to come up with something that they could use for 3 seasons. With a fireplace already existing they now have shade, and protection from rain if they wish to enjoy the out doors. The client chose darker finishes for her lighting and so did the same with the fascia (stay tuned for the finished product). Mustang Roofing and Exteriors finished the final touches and the home owner did a beautiful job on the finish painting.

We are getting closer to opening Hotel Lux this summer 2018. Below you will see a computer generated rendition of the Greenway room. Named for the 127km bike and walking trail that is part of the Guelph To Goderich trail. The trail is situated on the property that the CN railroad ran through. Greenway trail is the section of the trail that runs through Blyth. Renditions by Darian Gropp

We had lots of fun with tile and restructuring the main entry in this split level house. Taking out the front hall closet to the right, enabled us to create a main floor laundry and mudroom in place of their little used office. This gives a great space for the growing and busy family to take of muddy shoes and store their sporting equipment. As well laundry area is conveniently placed for easy usage. Using tile to create a front foyer mat gives an point of interest right when you walk in the door. The mat border continues into the mud room as a 24 x24' tile that is easy to sweep and mop. The larger tile means less grout lines.

True North Homes is entering into a new scene. After experiencing an afternoon in Blyth, Ontario, we heard there is a need for accommodations on every level. Since that is our forte we started searching for homes to convert to rental or living accommodations. We came across a commercial building in the heart of Blyth and chose to convert the upper level into 3 luxury hotel suites. We are excited about the future of our new road with our renovations. Well our Widermere home sold! Time for a new project as our one in Oakville project is wrapping up! Pictures soon!

We are not quite finished the exterior, the front door is the last piece to go in after the interior is finished. The clients have chosen a beautiful modern door with a sidelight. We are increasing the doorway height to its max. The exterior lighting will be installed and the garage door will be painted the same colour as the siding. The garage door is in fine shape so removing the mullions and changing the paint colour will finish the upgraded curb appeal. Creating a mor...e desirable curb appeal also has its benefits. The new siding has increased the "Rvalue" of the upstairs bedrooms. The new eaves and downspouts will protect the ground surrounding the foundation from water damage. The new siding has also closed the seams where animals enjoyed breaking into. The new windows also play a part in making this house more energy efficient. It's not just a pretty face! See more
