The Underground Circus 24.11.2020

Hello all Handstanders! I’m going to be borrowing a sensor pad from Joe Pratile. (www.VancouverMuscleDoctor). It’s an analytic device that has many sensors on it, usually used to see where people are putting weight on their feet. I want to use it to do some research on where people put weight on their hands in handstands I’m looking for beginner, intermediate and advanced handstand people. Also, different paths, such as hip hop, acro, gymnastics, and circus, I only have the... pad Monday and Tuesday, and Sunday evening (Nov. 1st, 2nd& 3rd) , so I’ll be trying to jam pack the day as much as possible. I’m guessing 10 to 15 minutes per person. I’d like to get as many people as possible, of all levels.. If you’re interested, let me know, and pass this on to others if you like, anybody interested can email me. ([email protected]) Also, if think of any movements, positions or drills that might give interesting results, please let me know, anything that you might have thought, I wonder what’s happening when I do this This hasn’t been done before, and the results will be publicly released, I hope the results will be useful. The underground circus is holding open training during the coronavirus pandemic. You are welcome to bring your own equipment, and are encouraged to read all current information on best practices. Do not come to the studio if you have any symptoms. I'll attach a link to a great article curated by Steven Santos at the Circus and Aerial Safety group. Training times are Monday to Friday, Mornings 10:30 to 1:30, and evenings, 6:30 to 9:30. https://docs.google.com//1PGXdGoCLTEuXRB1Xpfapk574cg/edit

This last Monday February 2 and 3 we had a blast to host the work shop of Courtney Julia @driftingmaple , Devin DeAngelis @acro.devin and Blox Acrobatics @bloxacrobatics. It was a privilege to have so many people working to a higher degree of competency in hand to hand balancing and to see the coaching of Courtney, Devin and Blox. Merci to all that attend the workshop.

My new take on The Show Must Go On It’s preferable and desired that performances are executed as planned, as long as all performers and technicians are conf...idant that the performance can be executed safely. There should be no misgivings on skill level, suitability of gear, training of technicians, show calls, safety procedures, or presence of appropriate emergency procedures. Openness of sharing safety information, and the willingness to abort a questionable performance, on the part of the client, event planner, circus director, riggers, support personnel, stage management, and fellow performers, and ourselves as performers must be maintained. Quality of life must go on. - doesn’t slip off the tongue, though.

I'm going to "Hidden Wonders" Tonight! - it's a show created and performed by Shawn Farquhar, one of the most brilliant magicians in the world, and a BC resident. He's been on Penn & Teller's "Fool me" twice, and fooled them...twice! He's been on the Ellen Degeneres show a couple of times, and has performed for a dizzying amount of celebrities around the world. It's going to be awesome. The show's on until Sept 26th, and you can see more info at: https://www.hiddenwonders.show
