After examining traffic and collision data for 38 highway segments in BC, Alberta and Quebec between 2008 and 2015, #UBCCivil Professor Tarek Sayed, an expert in traffic safety, and his team of researchers found a significant reduction in collisions after the width of pavement markings were increased. Unfortunately, most Canadian road authorities continue to use the narrowest recommended width-at just 4 inches-in order to minimize costs. UBC is a home to a diversity of students coming from different cultures, disciplines, ethnicities, talents, etc. I personally have befriended many of these amazing individuals and there is a lot to learn from each of these individuals. Because of his passion for visualizing and designing humanity, Piyaruwan Perera was immediately drawn to #UBCCivil for his PhD. He wasted no time making an impact with his research on the use of low-emission electricic vehicles to achieve national Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reduction targets.
