Research has shown that people who receive a basic income continue to work, with the exception of parents of young children and students. In Japan, pilot recipients who got a UBI were 4 times more interested in starting a business. The Ontario Basic Income pilot gave many people the freedom to go back to school, start businesses, volunteer, or find better work. "Getting unconditional payouts not only increased the well-being of the participating Finns but also made them sligh...tly more likely to find jobs. In short, they got healthier but not lazier." Work no longer provides economic stability for the vast majority of Canadians. More & more are working low-pay, low-quality jobs. Companies are doubling down on automation because of the crisis. We need #BasicIncome for a better economic recovery.

The Green Party of Canada has elected a new leader, Annamie Paul, a vocal supporter of Universal Basic Income. To date, the Green Party is the only major federal party in Canada with basic income on its official party policy platform. A contender for the party leadership, Glen Murray For Greens, had put out a fully-funded proposal for UBI earlier in the race. The federal Green MPs have also been vocal champions of basic income.
