Time for a trim! This week a team of landscapers will be on our West building to give our Living Roof its annual cut. Comprised of over 400,000 indigenous plants and grasses from across the Pacific Northwest, the trim will help ensure the environment remains a clean and healthy home in the coming year for the plants, birds, insects and honeybees that live there. Myles Koene, one of our landscapers from White Star Property Services, tells us that, because of the height and density of the grass (which can grow up to 4 ft. tall!), the process takes up to two weeks and requires a crew of six. Once the cut is finished, the green waste is composted and the roof is left to begin growing again until next November.
