Thursday night around 6:35pm Station 5 responded to a bale fire NW of Vauxhall. Fire crews and RCMP arrived to find a bale stack fully involved, thankfully there were no buildings close by being threatened. The land owner was notified and responded to scene. The decision was made to let it burn and the proper MD of Taber control burn paperwork was filled out and submitted. ... Crews were back in service around 9:00pm. The roads are slippery with the falling and blowing snow, please slow down and drive with care!
Unfortunately there will be no candy canes being handed out or food being picked up for the food bank this year. You can still donate your food or cash donations directly to the food bank.
Regional Fire Chief Schafer received a Thank you and Christmas gift of appreciation today from a local business that Station 5 members along with Vauxhall & Taber AHSEMS crews recently helped during their time of need. Thank you for your kindness!
Monday morning Dec 14 around 12:30 am Station 5 was called out to a vehicle fire/bale fire. Upon arrival of the first truck firefighters found a trailer & hay bales on fire in three different locations along Highway 864 and Township Road 134. Highway 864 was temporary blocked due to the burning bales scattered across the highway. Firefighters let the bales burn off so no water was sprayed on the highway in freezing temperatures making unsafe conditions. One of our bac...kpack blowers also came in handy cleaning it off back down to the pavement. Thank you to our public works director Stu Weber for assisting us and MD grader operator Kevin and machine to move the remaining bales off of the TWP road. Stu got woke up twice this weekend in the middle of the night to assist the RFS with two separate fires. Taber / Vauxhall RCMP also attended the scene, the cause of the fire is under investigation. There was no damage to the truck hauling the trailer. All units arrived back at the hall and were ready for service around 3:38 am this morning.
There seems to be a power outage going on in the Town of Vauxhall at this time. Please refer to the outage map below provided by Fortis.

The MD of Taber has escalated from "watch" to "enhanced" status on the list of communities for COVID-19. Please note the following new mandatory public health m...easures issued by Alberta Health effective Friday, November 13 for gatherings in all communities listed as "enhanced" (purple zones). We are responding to the rising COVID-19 spread by implementing targeted public health measures in Edmonton, Calgary, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Fort McMurray ...and Red Deer. These targeted measures take effect on Friday, November 13: Fitness group classes and team sports must stop until November 27. This does not include outdoor sport, individual sports, individual exercises, training or equipment use. Gyms are not required to close. This also doesn’t apply to junior, university or professional sports. Group performances, such as singing, dancing and theatre must cease. These measures don’t apply to professional performance venues. Additional public health measures will also implemented in all regions under an enhanced status: All restaurants, bars, lounges and pubs in these regions must cease liquor sales by 10 p.m. and close by 11 p.m. until November 27. Maximum attendance of 50 at wedding or funeral ceremonies. All faith-based activities are recommended to limit attendance to one-third capacity per service. Residents should not hold social gatherings within their home and should not plan social gatherings outside their community. Employers in office settings are recommended to implement measures to reduce the number of employees in the workplace at one time. We are asking all Albertans to do their part. If these measures are not successful, it will be necessary to implement more restrictive measures. For more information visit: https://www.alberta.ca/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx
