Happy Friday everyone! We know office meetings look a little different these days, but as Jim's shirt reminds us, the glass is technically always full. We hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.
Today is National Seniors Day! October 1 is an annual day to celebrate seniors in our community, and coincides with the United Nations International Day of Older Persons. Why do seniors matter so much to us? Because at the Family Resource Centre: we’re building a resilient community one child, one adult, one family at a time! The Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Skills Program is back! Summer and Fall sessions will be delivered on Tuesday evenings via Zoom (the full course is 6 modules delivered over 3 evening sessions). To register, call our office at 250-545-3390 and ask to speak to the Intake Coordinator. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy provides tools to manage thoughts, feelings, and actions. Research shows that CBT is very helpful for many mental health problems, including anxiety, depressi...on, and relationship difficulties. There is no cost to participate in the CBT Skills Program, and it is an education program (not a therapy group). If groups make you nervous, you may find that the CBT Skills Program is a good fit because you can choose to simply listen and follow along. If Zoom is not accessible for you, please ask the Intake Coordinator about an alternative option. If you are seeking CBT counselling support with a therapist, please ask about registering for one of our counselling programs.
FRC will begin a limited and gradual return to in person appointments starting the week of July 6th 2020. If you are currently seeing one of our Counsellors, you can expect a phone call soon to arrange an appointment. If you would like to complete an Intake Form in order to begin counselling at FRC, simply leave a message for our Intake Coordinator by calling 250-545-3390, ext 211.

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day. On June 21, we celebrate the heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples! It's National Volunteer Week and we are so excited to recognize our amazing volunteers at the Family Resource Centre. They support seniors in the community, provide lay counselling services, help with group programs and classes, provide specialized skills, and serve on our Board of Directors and Committees. We could not run our Agency without volunteers, and they are solid gold! From all of us, a huge and heartfelt thank you for all that our volunteers do! #volunteers #giveback
A really good reminder that, while many people are weathering the COVID-19 pandemic quite well, some are struggling. FRC is offering phone counselling (no fees) during the pandemic so please do call our office at 250-545-3390 if you are in need of support. We will help you complete an intake over the phone so you can begin counselling as soon as possible.
We know that a lot of people are worried about isolated and at-risk seniors right now and aren't sure how to help. The Family Resource Centre is looking for more people who want to be trained to become senior support volunteers and senior volunteer drivers, to be able to start once community-based programs are deemed safe to get up and running again. These volunteers perform important duties such as driving seniors to programs, making reminder calls, meal preparation, helpin...g with activities, and providing a supportive listening ear. Their contributions prevent isolation and improve quality of life in our community. Interested? Contact our office at 250-545-3390 and leave a message for Tracy, or email [email protected], or visit our website for more information. If you care about seniors and have some time to give, we want to get to know you! https://vernonfrc.ca/volunteer
