A mighty helicopter needs a mighty big gearbox! Sikorsky's CH-53K, shown here carrying a 27,000-lb. external load during aerial refueling, has a gearbox assembly that weighs 12,000 lb. about as much as a fully loaded S-76 helicopter.
Special delivery! The Royal Australian Air Force used a C-17A Globemaster to transport a Bell 412 helicopter from Canada to Australia for the New South Wales Rural Fire Service. With commercial shipping services experiencing delays, the use of the RAAF aircraft ensured the helicopter will be available for the upcoming bushfire season.
