2019 JCIH GUIDELINES ON NEWBORN HEARING SCREENING The 2019 Joint Committee on Infant Hearing Guidelines on Universal Newborn Hearing Screening state: A critical function in the success of UNHS is the ability to ensure timely retesting for all infants who do not pass their initial (birth) hearing screening. Outpatient rescreening should be performed as soon as possible after hospital discharge, and always before one month of ageWhen the outpatient rescreen is performed by a ...pediatric audiologist, and the infant does not pass the rescreen in one or both ears, it is preferable that the diagnostic evaluation be initiated immediately (i.e., during the same appointment). The Integrity V500 system offers Newborn Hearing Screening and Diagnostic ABR on one platform, facilitating immediate diagnostic evaluation during the same appointment following a failed outpatient rescreen. UAE STUDY SHOWS IMPORTANCE OF UNIVERSAL HEARING SCREENING This study from the UAE illustrates the importance of implementing universal hearing screening programmes in both healthy neonates and high-risk newborns admitted to the NICU. Limiting the screening to the high-risk group would fail to identify healthy newborns with hearing deficit, which accounted for two-thirds of cases in this study. A Vivosonic Integrity V500 system was used for diagnostic ABR testing. Read more: http://bit.ly/UAE_screening
