This homeowner hired a contractor to renovate the house they just purchased. He appeared to be a trustworthy and knowledgeable guy from their point of view until he mentioned half way through the project that he didnt test for asbestos due to the costs of abatement. Thankfully this raised a red flag for the homeowner and they called us in to have the air tested as well as multiple samples taken for testing. The tests came back positive for asbestos in the drywall joint compou...nd, 1-3% chrysotile asbestos. Some homeowners/contractors like to think 1% is too low to become a serious health risk when removing. The air tests taken at the time of initial visit came back with over 200 count of asbestos in the air!!!! This is very high ! At the end of the day we had to dispose of all the porous items in the home including all clothing, beds, couches, chairs carpets, and even furnaces, vacuum cleaners etc.... our crew spent 6 days cleaning this house to get the air to an acceptable level. This homeowner has a family and they were all living in the property for the duration if the renovations. They were all exposed to these high levels of asbestos 24/7 and nothing can be done to reverse this exposure.
