#28. The final day of our countdown to winter and our top 28 reasons #welovewinter. Our Log Cabin Christmas! A true winter dream. Celebrate Christmas with loved ones in a cozy cabin in the winter wonderland. Christmas at the log cabin comes with a special menu served up at the harvest table in front of the glow of a warm fire. Egg nog, sticky pudding, and a Christmas day feast are highlights. Of course, it's not all eating, drinking, and merry-making! This festive adventure continues outside with torchlit broomball, lake ski, and snowshoeing through snow-laden forests.

Today we celebrate the first day of winter ! The countdown is over and today marks the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year. All around the world, people have celebrated the winter solstice with festivals , fires, parties and lights. Here at Algonquin‘s northwest , we celebrate winter and all it brings. The sunrise today came up at the south side of the lake. By 130 pm the sun will fall behind the trees to the west, with sunset around 4 pm. To all of you , enjoy this special day , and whatever light you find or make , may it bring joy to you and your family. #welovewinter

#27 on our list of 28 reasons #welovewinter. Making first tracks before the official start to winter. Getting that first ski and snowshoe in early December feels heavenly! Like an early holiday gift, getting out early is the best way to extend your ski and snowshoe season. A highlight of early December is the low angle sun light making for stunning photography all day long .

# 17 Snowshoe tracks aren't the only tracks you will find in the snow at Algonquin's northwest corner. Snow provides us with amazing opportunities to see the movement and behaviours of different animals. From the leaping footprints of a Pine Marten to the belly slides of a River Otter, animal tracking is one of the reasons why #welovewinter

26. Sundogs! Sundogs are a beautiful phenomenon which happens when sunlight is refracted through ice crystals in the air. This refraction creates a beautiful display of sunlight on either side of the sun! #welovewinter

#16 Making time to play in the snow with friends. It’s so important to stay active and connected with friends and family all winter. Get outside together keeping proper distance and with masks as necessary. Have fun together in the #winterwonderland. #welovewinter

#14. Taking a polar plunge! A bit on the wild and crazy side , a dip into the lake though an ice hole is exciting and invigorating ! Some swear to the health benefits of cold water dips to build your immune system.
