Back in late February, the FYDP (Fourth Year Design Project) group completed the development of a prototype Ethanol/Nitrous Oxide liquid engine. In tandem, we moved our testing operations to a newly acquired shipping container, nicknamed Texas, located far from any buildings. Unfortunately, during the test, the engine's combustion chamber was over-pressurised, which resulted in a Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly. This was not the result we were hoping for, but everybody was sa...fe, and we took away some valuable lessons from this test, which we will use to develop a new and better engine. A huge thank you to Swagelok Central Ontario & Atlantic Canada for providing many components of our plumbing system, LiftWerx for helping relocate Texas, Praxair Canada Inc. for the cylinders of Nitrous Oxide and Nitrogen, and all of our other sponsors, we could not have done this without your generous support! The test was recorded without a hitch thanks to cameras provided by Fire Cam Police and Fire Cameras, and it's up on Youtube: https://youtu.be/zRoR-EW0NYI. While the test did not go as planned, it did make for a cool video

Last week, our payload crew came back from Ottawa, where they were participating in the flight campaign portion of SEDS Canada’s CAN-RGX design challenge at the NRC’s Flight Research Laboratory. The team won entry into this campaign in November with our proposal for an experiment to study ferrofluids in microgravity, and came away from it with an award for outstanding outreach efforts. We would like to take a moment to thank all of our sponsors for this competition for the time, products, and money they have contributed to our efforts. This project would not have been possible without them.

For the next few days, our payload crew is in Ottawa, participating in the flight campaign for SEDS-Canada's Canadian Reduced Gravity design challenge that we were accepted for in the fall. Watch our flickr album for it (https://flic.kr/s/aHsmFo8iUk), we'll be updating it daily with photos of all the cool things being done!
