Winter Training Opportunity: One of our favourite things to do during the winter months is to run softball clinics for area athletes at our local training facility, The Batters Box. Since we are not able to do that this winter, we have come up with a way to for us to still train ‘together’ while we are apart. The Mustang’s Softball team started the February Fitness Challenge yesterday and we would like you to join in the fun! It’s really easy to get started, the schedule is flexible and no equipment is required. You will be doing the very same training program as your Western Mustangs!!!! Teams or individuals are welcome to join the challenge. Let us know if you have any questions. Work hard and have fun future Mustangs! Stay safe everyone #thumbsupfeb

Evidence indicates clearly that most of us need to be more physically active for optimal wellness and that sitting for prolonged time periods without regular movement breaks is very unhealthy. Further, regular physical activity improves cognitive function, is more likely to be done with others, and is great fun! All activity counts and even a little is better than none. Why not start today? For details, see the 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for Adults just released by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology.

Normally over this weekend the University National Fastpitch Softball Championship would be ongoing; however, due to the pandemic that is not happening. Without the exciting action to watch let's travel back to 2013 when the Mustangs were the 2 time defending National Champions and the tournament was hosted by Western at London's Stronach Park. We pick up the action in the bottom of the 4th inning of the Championship game with the Mustangs leading the Ottawa Gee Gees 5-1. Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving to all! https://youtu.be/3LdJBzsSJbY

Mustang Softball is very busy preparing for the 2020-21 school year amid this terrible pandemic. As you might imagine, things are going to be very different this year. For example, the majority of classes will be online, campus visits require physical distancing, and most communication with student-athletes has to be conducted remotely via programs like Zoom as the University has been closed for nearly 5 months. 2019-20 Highlights: We won our 10th consecutive Ontario Cham...pionship (12th overall), finished 4th at Nationals, and had a record 11 Academic All Canadians (Joscyline Cadwell, Maddy Lefaive, Bella Kennedy, Rebecca Lansley, Meg Parno, Jessie Brown, Claire Lavereau, KC Lehn, Lauren Greco, Syd Benn, and Erin Chan). Aimee Leduc and Emma Murray were selected Ontario All-Stars, Aimee Leduc was the Mustang MVP, the Top Conference Pitcher, and a Western All Sport student-athlete of the Week, Meg Parno was named the MVP of Provincials and to the Great Britain U22 yr National Team, Lauren Greco was the Best Year 1 Mustang, Meg Moore, the Most Improved Mustang, while Bella Kennedy and Briar Balas were the Mustang Award recipients. 2019-20 Nationals Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mEt-qDUHfI; 2019-20 Provincials Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_I0RDZuXdnM&t=114s. 2020-21 Outlook: Although our Fall conference games have been cancelled, we plan to practise with physical distancing, mask wearing, use of hand sanitizer, etc, and, if we can do so safely, play a few games locally in anticipation of a possible winter season and a rescheduled National Tournament planned for March or May in BC. Adopt a Mustang Appeal: Being a successful student-athlete is no easy task but the skills required translate easily to future careers which explains why so many student-athletes experience great success following graduation. However, as you might expect, providing this type of experience is expensive and to do so we rely heavily on the financial assistance of many Mustang Softball friends. This year, with all the changes forced by the pandemic, Adopt a Mustang donations are even more important. Consequently, if you are already an Adopt a Mustang Softball supporter, please consider increasing your donation or, if you are not yet on board, please consider joining the herd. Every donation is welcome, regardless of size. Donating is Super Easy: With any major credit card, you can give via one lump sum or a monthly pledge. The latter is even more appreciated as it helps with our planning. Regardless, charitable receipts are available for your entire donation. To donate: simply, click: http://www.giving.westernu.ca//adopt-/sports/softball.html and follow the on screen directions. Finally and importantly, if you know someone who might be interested in helping us build future leaders, please have them contact [email protected], so we can provide all the details. Thanks very much for your support and stay safe!

In 2019-20, Western Women’s Softball won the Ontario Championship for the 10th consecutive time (12th title since 2006). This success is the result of the comb...ined efforts of a large group of young women, parents, donors, and coaches over this extended time period. Thanks and congratulations to all! If you can assist us by recommending a quality student-athlete or by making a donation to Mustang Softball (charitable receipts are available), simply contact [email protected]. Now on to the next decade! See more
