Wheelhouse - We are no strangers to discomfort. No matter how long you’ve been riding it out with us, we’ve seen you uncomfortable; we’ve seen you tired; we’ve seen you want to quit. ... But you never did, did you? Then 2020 happened and we all got tested together, at the same time. Willingly or not, we trudged through this past year and WE GOT UNCOMFORTABLE. But we didn’t quit, did we? Instead, we kept riding and moving and living and, in doing so, we learned about our own stamina, perseverance, patience, acceptance and resilience. To Our WH Community, . . . Maybe you’ve heard. Maybe you haven’t. Today at 1PM the province has enacted new guidelines, restricting *all* gyms to run classes with a maximum of 10 participants, effective at the stroke of midnight, tonight.... . . . You know what they say, either you ride change or change rides you. In order to act in compliance, our team is heads down, dials up, making quick decisions as to how our ride will look in light of these new rules. You, our community, will of course have questions about your membership, your account, your current reservation etc. We get that and will be communicating extensively with members in the hours and days to come. . . . Here’s what we know right now: Tomorrow’s classes (Saturday October 3rd) are CANCELLED. If you’re currently signed up, our team will do the work of removing the reservation for you, with no penalty (obviously!) We will resume operations Sunday October 4th. All forthcoming reservations for the week ahead will also be CANCELLED. We are currently reconfiguring our booking system to meet the new capacity guidelines and will be opening our system back up for booking tomorrow (Saturday October 3rd) at a time to be decided, for classes from Sunday October 4th on. . . . While we rapidly respond to these guidelines we ask for your patience and grace. We will be sending updated information about class schedules, booking and memberships on both our social media feeds as well as via email, over the next 24 hours. If you do not currently receive emails from us, we recommend resubscribing via your WH account (just check the box!). In the meantime, we will be unable to respond to individual requests via email or DM and ask that you stay tuned to these channels, as it’s likely your question will be answered and posted on here in the hours to come. Dear WH community - Heather & Nadine here to tell you that it’s time to rethink what Wheelhouse looks like. . .... . When WH transitioned to the WareHouse in July, our plan was to ride in a temporary space so that we could bring our community back together as low-risk as possible until we could reopen our two existing studios; Welly West and Centretown. . . . But, from that first ride, something felt different. The vibe was electric. The energy was contagious and - it hit us - the space was perfect. It’s difficult to recognize when you’ve outgrown something but once you do, there’s no going back. . . . It is bittersweet to let you know that we are closing our doors at 1279 Wellington St W and moving our ride permanently to The WareHouse at 145 Spruce St. . . . In the meantime, for our Centretown riders, we are still planning to reopen at this location as soon as it is safe to do so, operating two WH studios for y’all to clip in and turn up at. . . . Thank you for all of your support. If there’s one thing we’ve learned in these seven months, it’s that while our bikes go nowhere, our community continues to follow and move forward with us. . . . Three things . . . 1) We received an absolutely staggering response to our call for applications to our 2SLGBTQ+ Sweat Scholarship program. While we originally announced two full-ride, full-year memberships to WH, the quality and volume of submissions made it impossible for us to narrow it down. Thus, we’re excited to announce that in 2020 we’ve doubled our commitment and have given *FOUR* full-year WH memberships away to four incredibly deserving and diverse riders. All... recipients have been notified. . . . 2) Our WH vs Pride donation only ride, led by WH legend and queer icon @instaandrews , raised $600 for one of our fave queer-centred and led organizations @kindspaceca. . . . 3) Black lives matter - the first pride was a riot led by queer people of colour, *specifically* Black trans women like Marsha P.
