Member of the Month Say hi to Jordan! Jordan has just completed our intake training and is now officially a new member of our station. Jordan has comm...itted over 30 hours of time training and studying in a revised Covid compliant set up to become an active member. His First Responder certification along with his dedication and commitment make him a great addition to our team. Congratulations and welcome to the team! #rcmsar #volunteer #savinglivesatsea #welcometotheclub #community See more

The S.S. Master has plied B.C. waters for close to a century but was starting to show its age. A major retrofit though means the wooden-hulled, steam-powered tug boat is set to sail again.

Drone footage from DFO has confirmed that the gear that Checkmate the Humpback was entangled in, has fallen off. So fortuitously, the rope that was through Chec...kmate’s mouth, with a prawn trap under the right pectoral fin, is not longer there. Checkmate was reported as entangled on July 25th. Even though this is a whale we know to often be around the Campbell River / Quadra area and that there was considerable effort to find back Checkmate and another entangled whale often in that area, it was not till August 19th that Checkmate was found again Cetus Research & Conservation Society/ Straitwatch relocated Checkmate then and again on August 22nd. DFO got the drone footage yesterday confirming that Checkmate is no longer entangled. The other three whales known to be entangled in July, have not been relocated. We are striving to provide the latest information at https://mersociety.wordpress.com//currently-entangled-whal If you are a boater, please ensure you know what to do (and not to do) if you seen an entangled whale.
