Internet, meet Zoë! She's a student in our upcoming EMR Bridge course and will be sharing her experiences over on our Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/medicinthetrees/)! Let's give her a great big CWMT welcome! Read more about her below: "Hello and I’m stoked to be joining Coast Wilderness Medical Training for this takeover! I’m Zoë, originally from the UK, and grateful to be living on Skwxwú7mesh-ulh Temíxw (Squamish) land in BC, where I spend my time hiking, skiing, tr...ail running and climbing my way into the beautiful backcountry of the Coast Mountains. I took my 80-hour WFR course with Coast Wilderness in August, right before a climbing trip to the Rockies. The course was intense, super interesting, and so much fun! From day 1, we were hands-on doing scene surveys and primary assessments. Our instructors were experienced paramedics who all love the outdoors, and they created a really awesome learning environment where we were constantly challenged but well-supported. By the end of the week I felt like I’d learned so much, but also that I’d barely scratched the surface. I realized that I really enjoyed the relational and emotional aspects of patient care as well as the new technical and medical knowledge I was gaining. A few days later I signed up for the EMR bridge course that I’ll be taking in November. To me, having your first aid basics and a little bit of knowledge around extended patient care is one of those things that you put in your toolkit along with the Ten Essentials at the beginning of the day. Even just knowing how to keep someone warm, fed, and dry can make a huge difference to their outcome, as can recognizing early warning signs and making the call to get closer to medical help as soon as possible. With the EMR course I’m hoping to sharpen my skills, practice what I learned in my WFR, and come out confident and competent to provide immediate care for someone in need. Can’t wait!"
