We are so heartbroken to hear about the passing of Curtis Jonnie, known to the festival as Shingoose. He played the Winnipeg Folk Festival seven times from 1975 to 2016 and was an integral part of the festival over the years. His last festival appearance was in 2016 for a once-in-a-lifetime concert that brought together Indigenous artists featured on Grammy-nominated album, "Native North America (Vol. 1) Aboriginal Folk, Rock and Country 1966-1985". His family and friends are in our thoughts through this very difficult time. Rest in peace. : David Quiring

'Iris', is a natural evolution and a moody counterpoint to their debut. Recorded between the wild forests of B.C. and the concrete high rises of Brooklyn, Iris is a heartfelt offering, a tapestry of thoughtful stories for our time. Tomorrow is your last day to take our survey. COVID-19 has been challenging for many arts organizations including ours and we are so thankful for your support through these unusual times. As we look ahead and plan for a safe in-person event in 2021, we’d appreciate your feedback on how we can plan and prepare for the best festival we can under these circumstances. We will be periodically surveying people to see how things change over time in order to make the best decisions possible within approved public health standards.
