Smiles were all around as we waved goodbye to Satch and her new adopters, Katherin and Cameron! As excited as Satch was to head to her new home, she did let us snap a quick family shot to celebrate her big day! #feelgoodfriday #WHSHeroes
#feelgoodfriday: We really enjoyed watching the instant bond between sweet Kendrick and the Violy family. It was the perfect match! Congratulations to this wonderful family on their big adoption day.
We love sharing wonderful #WHSAlumni updates to bring some holiday cheer! Little kitten Choji is sure bringing a lot of cheer in his forever home: "I adopted Choji back in August; he has been an amazing fit for our household! Despite not having any vision, this brave boy has fully mapped out the house, including the stairs to the basement! Choji and Jack (3 year old Yorkiepoo canine brother) have quickly become best friends. I could not imagine not having him in our family! - Daniel"
Kids Give Back is an initiative that was launched in 2019 to encourage children and youth to come together and give back to those within our community. While last year's event included a half day of crafts for the kids, we had to get creative once again as the Province of Manitoba announced red restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout November, families were invited to register for a one-day curbside drop off, and asked to put together a pet shoe box filled with... supplies for a cat, dog, or critter. Cars were lined up outside the shelter with 216 boxes being donated over a two-hour period. An incredible team of six volunteers shared messages of hope and holiday cheer while handing out candy canes and take-home crafts as our thanks. The response and the willingness of the community to step up was heartwarming and reminded us that there is still reason to celebrate the holiday season. This year, clients from Age & Opportunity, Bear Clan, and students from John M. King School and Teen Stop Jeunesse will receive these gifts of pet shoe boxes for their furry family members this holiday season. We are so grateful for the families who donated and the volunteers who supported this year’s Kids Give Back. It was truly a team effort!
How great does Rusty look on his big adoption day!? Rusty and new adopter Nicole are already two peas in a pod. We wish this duo all the best for their new adventures together. #feelgoodfriday #WHSHeroes
Our good friends from Animal Food Bank came by the shelter to pick up all the pet food donations you made during our Pet Food Drive for local animals in need. Thank you thank you for your extreme generosity Winnipeg. Thanks to you, more animals will have food to eat this holiday season.
We received this update from #WHSHeroes Karen and Josh that really touched our hearts. Thank you for giving Pecan, Luna, and Iggy a wonderful home and life: "We want to send an update on Pecan and Luna (formerly Peter and Wendy) and the promised photos. The cats are doing extremely well. They love eating, playing, bird watching, destroying house plants and sleeping. Luna is still very shy but now plays with us, especially when Pecan is involved. Pecan is now very affectionate... and likes to cuddle, get scratches and sit on our laps. And most of all they love each other! We are very happy that they get to live together and hope that more cats have that opportunity. For a shy cat like Luna, it's been so important to have her brother around when she gets scared or nervous... We also wanted to thank you for the great care you provided to our cat Iggy when he got picked up in the summer. Sadly, Iggy was diagnosed with cancer shortly after and passed away in October. We really miss him, and are glad he had happy last few months. He was a favorite of the vets because he loved all human attention. His photo is also attached. Thanks again for all the great work you do, and enjoy the photos of P, L & I. . Happy 2021! - Karen and Josh" See more

Jovie's big smile says it all: "I'm off to my new home!" A big congratulations to Jovie and Eric on their big adoption day! #feelgoodfriday #WHSHeroes
Another wonderful update on Noodles! We love that Noodles has taken her cat duties seriously in her forever home! #feelgoodfriday "We adopted Noodles a month ago and we couldn’t be happier!! She has adjusted very well. She loves playing with her toy mouse, empty toilet paper rolls and her box. She keeps an eye on the neighbourhood and even helps with homework! And if there is an empty lap for her to curl up in, she’ll find it. We are so glad she is a part of our family!! Stephanie"

#feelgoodfriday: Newly adopted Miyagi has a lot to teach his new family, like when dinner, snuggle, and treat time is. But we're sure his #WHSHeroes will keep up with this amazing boy. Congratulations to Miyagi on his big adoption day!
Happy #feelgoodfriday! Here is a wonderful update we received from #WHSHeroes Brock and Sarah after a week since adopting sweet little Susie! We are so happy this family found each other. "Just wanted to pass along a quick update on Susie, who we adopted on Friday. Her first weekend with us was, I'd say, a wonderful success. The first day she was predictably quite anxious: panting, shivering, and not eating much. That all turned around Sunday, when she really started to decom...press. She's eaten every bite of her breakfast and dinner since Sunday morning, and is starting to show more interest in treats and toys too. We've been for a few really nice walks; with the harness on, she's quite easy to handle and eagerly responds to redirection from distractions. She does get scared if she spots another dog, but we're working on just doing a sit and waiting for the other dog to pass by with minimal fuss...A very good girl! Many thanks again for bringing this sweet, wonderful girl into our family. Best, Brock & Sarah" See more
Have you signed up yet for our Kids Give Back initiative? Your kids will love it! We're inviting families to put together a holiday-wrapped shoe box filled with pet food/treats/toys for local pets in need. The first 150 boxes dropped off at our curbside drop-off on December 6th will receive a special holiday take-home activity for the kids! More info: https://bit.ly/3eC0GaH
#adoptdontshop: Orion may start off hiding in his favourite spot, but this curious boy can't stop himself from coming out and seeing what kinds of treats, chin and head scratches you have to offer. Orion is a shy 1 year old who may be unfamiliar with being the center attention, but it's nothing a bit of patience, and a lot of love can change! Orion enjoys the company of other cats, especially ones that enjoy a good snuggle together. To learn more about Orion, call our Adoptions department at 204-982-2035.
