Herbal Chai Rooibos! I feel like I am in my 2nd litre of this tea today. I love the warm spicy taste of this tea when the snow is following. If you are sensitive to caffeine like me this is a great choice if you want to drink endless amounts of tea.

Jasmine Dragon Tears The only tea that is good enough to steal. That is sadly not a joke. If you like Jasmine this is the ultimate tea. These hand rolled tea leaves are supposed to be used 3 times! Have you made multiple infusions before?... When we rebuilt the Teashop as a cafe I was asked so many times Are you not worried about having all the teas this close to the door? Tea drinkers don’t steal! Was always my reply. Turns out I wasn’t right. This tea was stolen so frequently I can no longer keep it on the shelf and you must ask for it when you would like to purchase it. This is currently the most premium tea we stock but when you consider 3 infusions it is actually priced similar to other teas and if you try it you will taste it is on a level above. Try for yourself the only tea we have people are willing to risk criminal charges to drink.

Formosa Oolong This is not a Japanese tea but for me I can never separate my years in Japan from this delicious tea. It hails from Taiwan but I can’t think of a tea I drank more often while out of the house than this rich oolong. It even comes out of the fountain pop machine at McDonald’s Big Mac set-o to Oolong-Cha onegai shimasu = Can I have a Big Mac combo with an iced oolong tea.... Whether it was dinner with friends at an Izakaya or picking up the phone in the karaoke room to order another round of drinks, someone was always getting this tea. Japanese teas are amazing; Sencha, Gyokyuro, Hojicha, Genmaicha, Kukicha and the list goes on and on. For me I will never think of Japan without the taste of this tea on my mind. It is amazing hot or iced. The Japanese drink it out when eating greasy food and say it helps to block fat absorption but I drink it everyday and well......decide for yourself if it is doing that for me. I’ve been having trouble SLEEPING the last few months. Trying to navigate this time often leads my mind to be racing when it is supposed to be calm. So two an a half weeks ago I decided to try out the Lullaby tea I’ve had in stock for over a year. I don’t know why I waited so long. Probably because I love black, green, white and oolongs so much I am always hesitant to reach for an herbal.... Here is my report. I am drinking 2 mugs of it about an hour before bed. When I get to bed I am now falling asleep with my book in my hands. I am also sleeping through the night. I don’t think that has happened for years. I am also waking up feeling a lot more rested. I am feeling so good about about it I brought the largest size tin home tonight.

I’ve been working on this new crepe and I asked my dad and Ren to give my latest experiment a try. When they arrived it was so busy for so long and Ren waited so patiently and when I was finally ready to make it. He said Dad, I want the crepe with strawberries and whip cream and chocolate and lots of stuff.....and pocky! He didn’t end up trying my experiment but I think he seems happier with his choice.

I love thanksgiving dinner but it is hard to imagine I will have anything more delicious than the Hot Toddy I just made with @uniontendistilling Canadian Apple Jack whiskey. It is no exaggeration that some of the best products I have had in my life come out of the Old East Village. If there is something better than a Hot Toddy, sunshine and a novel my dad gave me from @mysticbookshoplondon I haven’t found it.

What’s the best tea after thanksgiving dinner? I love this Chocolate Mint Rooibos. Goes well with any desert and has no caffeine. Come get some tomorrow while we’re open 11:30 or order online before 5pm tomorrow and I’ll make sure it gets to you tomorrow night. It’s going to be a challenge to eat all the thanksgiving dinner in our house with only 3 adults and a 4 year old but I’ll accept that challenge.

Do you have that rice/popcorn tea? That is probably the most common way people ask for Genmaicha. I love genmaicha. It has humble origins with roasted rice being mixed with tea to make the tea harvest go farther and make it accessible to more people. Like many things of humble origin it is now sought after in its own right.... I love a cup anytime but it matches exceptionally well with sushi and sashimi. Happy Canada Day! Memories of tea I had this maple black tea for the first time 11 years ago. I was living in Japan and my parents had just opened a retail loose tea shop. I thought they were totally crazy to want to run their own business....

This Air-dried King Tut Lemonade is one of my favourite ice teas. On it’s own it taste like an unsweetened lemonade but with 0 calories. These lemon rinds are naturally dried in the dessert in Egypt. Do you think it’s called King Tut because it is good enough for King Tut or because he was also air dried in the dessert?

It is hot! I drink a lot of ice tea in this heat. This ice tea carafe is amazing for it. I often get asked what is the best teas for ice tea. For myself I like teas I can pour water on and not worry they’ll be bitter with over steeping. Rooibos, fruit tea, hojicha.... But I do love others teas as well. If I want a black, green, white or oolong I double the amount of tea and do a 4 minute infusion. See more
