Well, it's finally finished. The parking lot is expanded and back to being opened !! Apologies for leaving people in the dark a little bit. We had several hurdles to cross in-order to get to where we are now. For the time being it will remain gravel until we have a chance to lay asphalt and begin the next chapter of this journey. I realize during this time things have been hectic and congested. It is a constant concern but we are working as fast as possible to alleviate some ...of the traffic. I will update as much as possible as the projects continue. Thank you for your patience and understanding . P.S This was by far my most favorite (albeit stressful) project. I had the privilege to work along side my child hood friend of 25+ years and several other local companies. Without Westendorps and Karl Couture. I really don't believe this portion would have not gone nearly as fast. You guys truly have gone above and beyond and cannot thank you enough !

So it begins. Sad to lose a little history, but excited to build for the future !

Dear neighbours, family and friends. We wanted to update on our community basket project. It started with Adams delicious breads. Followed by Judy's amazing pies (200+ pies !). Claire and David Westendorps warm loaves of Friendship bread and countless donations. Today, the community basket is so much more then that. We now use the "community basket" to promote farm fresh local produce. Everything is donated to the community, however they do have suggested donation pricing on them. The goal is to hopefully one day allow for a community garden of our own to share. Today's delivery just blew me away and I had to show everyone how far it has come along ! The fresh basil is amazing, margarita pizza's anyone ? :) P.S We are now back to regular hours with phase 3 opening (mon-fri 6:30am - 9:00pm)

Yarker Lucky Dollar 15.08.2020

Just a quick update today. We are indeed open fully tomorrow July 1st. This does include the LCBO/Beer. Our hours are 8am-7pm. See everyone tomorrow !

Good evening, I had to take a minute to thank everyone. Friday, we were sent scrambling trying to figure out how to enforce the new mask policy and figuring out our interpretations of the exemptions. Not knowing what to expect on Saturday, I am extremely happy to report that the majority ( over 90% estimated, the remaining were given masks or people exempted) came in wearing a mask and even more on Sunday ! It was hard to recognize some of you, but really amazing to see so ma...ny people taking matters seriously ! With that said, there is a little confusion about the policy moving forward. We will not be allowing anyone not wearing a mask into the store moving forward regardless of the exemptions ( minus the age exemption ) However our goal is to not exclude anyone, thus we offer free delivery ( will follow up with AGCO on Monday about liquor delivery) or curbside as an alternative. We feel this is a fair compromise ( always open to suggestions ) and feel those medically exempted would prefer these options either way. Just like our Covid situation this will forever be changing and we will adjust as requested. See more

Morning everyone, I'm so excited to showcase our community initiative project !! Last week we posted about a community initiative project. Local growers, will be donating produce out of their gardens and we will be facilitating a safe area to hand out their goods. All donations collected will go into a community project fund ( Hopefully a community garden ) I wanted to take a minute to show everyone what it has looked like so far. Also thank you so much Rob and Lynn for the rhubarb and Janet for the great produce !

Good Morning, it's been awhile since our last post, so this one is going to be a whooper. Part was just how busy things have been, but also how fast things are changing. Covid-19 has been an incredibly challenging and traumatic experience for most, it's taken lives and cost everyone dearly. We wish there was something that could have been done to change what has passed, The sad reality is that there isn't. The only thing we can do is not let the lessons learned pass without c...hange. I truly hope that the weakness exposed in our system are corrected from the events passed. For us at Lucky Dollar, we plan on doing the same. We've seen the support. We've seen the community band together. We've seen how people have shifted their priorities. I cannot express how thankful I am everyday to be here. I think it's only fair we return some of the support to the community. To begin, we have shifted our mentality towards locally produced and sourced products. Originally, our local vendors would bring us product and we would price them with the same margins as any of our other products, in effect treating them no differently then any other major brand. This often leads to much higher prices then most off the shelf brands because of the inherent cost of production for smaller operations, which are further compounded by a percent based margin. This is no longer the case. We will support local businesses by reducing our margins in our store on locally sourced/produced products and hopefully keeping them more in line with other commercially produced products. Detlor's Maple Syrup has been on our shelves for many years and we love his product and who he is as an individual. Moving forward we've reduced his pricing significantly for his Syrup. We've brought in a local honey operation out of Odessa, Shane Apiaries. Quinn's continues to be our meat supplier. We are in the midst of bringing in Erin's Eco-Movement. Erin's selfless contributions during covid-19 were greatly appreciated and we look forward to her hygiene products being sold in the store. Finally, the Yarker Lucky Dollar and Simcoe Falls Market Garden a regular at the Yarker Farmers' Market are teaming up to provide fresh locally grown produce at the Lucky Dollar. This produce and sales revenues generated will support families in need, with surplus funds set aside for community projects, including a community garden for Yarker. Any local growers also willing to provide produce to this initiative, please contact David Chang at the Yarker Lucky Dollar. As we move forward, our business ethos will continue to evolve. We cannot promise that we may not stumble along the way, but we know we have the community to remind us when we do and help us get back to the right path when we need it. Cheers, Lucky Dollar Erin's Eco Adventure Shane's Apiaries Quinn's Brian Meats

Starting June 15th we will be going back to regular morning hours opening at 6:30am Monday-Saturday. It's been another awesome week of people donating to help everyone out ! Since our last update, we've had Erin from Eco-Adventure drop off an assortment of great soap products to hand out, she's a new local up and coming business and we greatly look forward to doing business with her in the future ! This morning we received another delivery of fresh sour dough from Adam along with a great surprise box of homemade play dough ! They are great little gifts for the kids to come p...ick up. They only request pictures of the creations in exchange ! If you have children that want something fun and creative to do, please come pick one up ! Speaking of kids, my youngest doners yet to date, Claire and David Westendorp spent the day baking mini chocolate chip banana and zucchini muffins I *hear* they taste delicious and seem to be disappearing fast ! It's incredible to see even the kids doing wonderful things in such hard times ! Cheers to all of you guys this week ! Amazing as always. See more

Good morning Yarker, as we approach the end of the third week of our state of emergency, I am continually impressed by the immense generosity shown by ever single member of this community. Perry farms doing such an amazing job with it's pantry, Adam and Judy baking amazing treats purely out of kindness, our fire/police/municipal/farm workers going out of their ways to make a child feel special on his birthday. You guys are all going above and beyond and should know that the d...ifference you make now can last forever. Especially as we are about to enter another week of isolation, it's even more important we remember we are all in this together, different challenges will arise as we keep going longer down this path. So let's kick off the fourth week with some more positive vibes. Today, a wonderful act of kindness from a family I could not be more proud of to share this community with ! Pam Westendorp, has very kindly donated our entire stock of feminine hygiene products. Thank you so much Pam ! Not just a kind act, but such a great statement about the actual cost of these products. Sorry everyone, this is a very late announcement. LCBO/Beer options are closed for Friday April 10 and Sunday April 12. We are open during those days for groceries and everything else. I am also expecting an LCBO delivery on Saturday April 11. We are also able to sell on Saturday. If you need anything, come in on Saturday, we should be well stocked again. Also a quick shout out to Adam Taylor and Judy Skinner. They have baked the most incredible bread and pies for the communi...ty bread basket. None of it lasts more then a hour before it's gone ! It reminds me of the old days when the 100th customer of the day would win a prize ! Lucky customers that have just happened to be there when these prized goodies arrive have all walked out with amazing treats ! To everyone else that have been donating, we have been able to reach out and help over a dozen families so far ! This is all possible because of everyone's generosity ! You are all killing this pandemic with some serious kindness ! It is a privilege to be able to run a business in this community. I couldn't be any more thankful this holiday weekend. Happiest Easter, everyone !

Yarker Lucky Dollar 14.02.2020

Hello again friends, I had to take a few minutes and do a post about the incredible response from the community. The other day Herman Westendorp was incredibly kind to spend his morning helping us hang plexiglass to help keep us protected. I couldn't be more thankful for his generosity and kindness. Today, Adam Taylor, was kind enough to bake his incredible sour dough bread and drop off four loaves for the community ! We have now started a community bread basket that will con...tinued to be filled with his amazing bread for anyone in need of bread ! To the rest of the community who have donated via tips as well as a very generous donation from our local church. We want to pay it forward. If anyone is struggling to find funds for groceries, please reach out via PM on our Facebook or call me directly at 613.929.8488. Everything will remain confidential. I really cannot express in words the way everyone is standing up for one another. You all are incredible human beings. I am so thankful to be a part of this community. Much Love, Yarker Lucky Dollar P.S we have toilet paper and a small supply of wipes :p ( please only request wipes if you really need it )

Yarker Lucky Dollar 01.02.2020

**Update** Just a quick update, we will be changing our hours from 8am-7:30pm Mon-Fri. As things begin to escalate and times becoming more anxious, we would like to use those early hours and late hours to spend more time sanitizing. We have also found that those hours tend to be very slow anyways, and the focus on sanitation has never been more critical. We will continue to answer phones before hand if required. Thank You, ... Dave

Yarker Lucky Dollar 22.01.2020

Yarker Lucky Dollar 09.01.2020

A quick announcement. Deliveries are starting to ramp up, which is great news, more and more people are starting to take this seriously and stay indoors and self isolate. We are furthering our delivery window by making it mon-saturday deliveries and no time restriction. We are also making it aware that we will be continuing to open at 6:30am-9pm mon-fri. I am hoping by keeping our full time hours people will take advantage of the early and later hours to come in spreading out... the number of customers in the store at any given time. The LCBO has allowed us to start selling at an earlier time as well in hopes of achieving the same effect. LCBO/Beer sales will begin as early as 7am-9pm. By the way Dad makes a killer pot of coffee in the mornings ! Deliveries: Message on facebook, or call it in @ 613.377.6617. We will drive it to your driveway and drop it off. Please do not come out to greet us (its for safety reasons, we will celebrate once we are over this pandemic) E-transfers or sanitized and sealed cash only. Curb Side Pickup: Message on facebook or call it in @ 613.377.6617. We will pack it up (hopefully not forget anything ) and load it into your trunk. Do not leave your vehicles and no need for greetings (once again for safety reasons) E-Transfers and sanitized and sealed cash only. E-Transfers can be made to [email protected] (funniest security question/answers will be posted with permission !!) Lets continue to work together and get through these times. At the end, we will celebrate like never before (details to be later released ) Please help inform those that do not have facebook ! Stay Healthy Everyone, Dave P.S Delivery orders and curbside orders are not restricted to just necessities. You can include Beer/Liquor in your orders. We are not cruel :P P.P.S We reserve all rights to refuse tobacco and alcohol related products if there is any indication that age is an issue. Confirmation of ID's will have to occur through a window (if even possible) In any case, if we refuse service, refunds will be made immediately. ***UPDATE*** The AGCO has not officially allowed changes to the sale of liquor yet. Unfortunately, this means we have to remove it as an option from delivery for now. I will update as soon as I can get a pass from the AGCO.

Good Morning Friends, Family and Neighbors. Today is the third day of social distancing protocols for most people in self isolation. I was directed this morning to a video of a convenience store that was price gouging on toilet paper. I wanted to do my part to maybe put a little context into things just to help create some understanding. Right now, supply for products (such as toilet paper) is taking a major hit, while demand is staying relatively high. It has forced retailer...s to often look outside of their usual supply chains (Wholesalers often will gouge retailers as well) to source scarce products. Often this means paying the full retail value of an item and then having to place a margin on top (even just to cover cost of procurement). The obvious result is an inflated price on a product that normally would not cost as much. In this situation, normally, retailers will often choose to forego that product and allow their shelves to remain empty until normal supply can be re-established. However, these are exceptional times and retailers are finding themselves going out of their way (meaning even higher costs) to try to keep products available. I know on our end, we often make several trips a day to Kingston (and now even as far as Trenton) to try to source our products as reasonable as humanly possible. So far, thanks to our wonderful wholesalers and connections we have been able to maintain reasonable prices. With all this being said. There is a third option. As a social responsibility to help one another, retailers can also understand that these are unique circumstances and making a buck is not all that matters. Sometimes, you really need to just put down the calculator, lead by example and do the right thing. With that being said. We choose to lead (hopefully other retailers may choose to lead as well) For the following three weeks (or however long this may take) we are removing our profits from essential items. Most bread products (White loaves, hot dog/hamburger buns, brown loaves, bagged milk, coffee creamer, eggs and Culligan water) These items will now be sold at cost. It may not be a lot but hopefully we can get something positive trending ! Stay Healthy Everyone, Dave

Good Morning Neighbours, apologizes in advance for the following lengthy post. As we approach closer and closer to what appears to be an inevitable run in with COVID-19 virus, it seems silly to not take certain precautions to help prevent spread. Regardless of the severity of COVID-19 or whether people choose to believe in the hype or not, there is no denying the panic that has already taken hold. I truly do wish that this is nothing more then just panic and fear. However, it...Continue reading

Welcome Neighborhood Friends And Family, To the NEW Yarker Lucky Dollar. It was been an extremely long and busy summer here at the shop. We have been rebuilding the business after almost 30+ years ! During this time, we have tried to remain open in order to provide as many services as possible, however some of our favorite summertime products were just not available (aka the flower market ) Do not fret, we will be bringing back the flowers next season as well as many new add...itions to come ! First and foremost, I have to take a moment to acknowledge all the incredible out pouring of support we received. Whether it was advice on how to correct our many building issues, building design, product layout, or even a simple friendly chat to keep things in prospective (times were stressful among the family ) We really could not have done this without everyone. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful community behind us. This store- this entire business, belongs to everyone in this community just as much as it does to us. So, from the very bottom of my heart, THANK YOU EVERYONE ! Thank you for the support, the wonderful chats and especially the home cooked meals (yes, they were all incredible and I crave them on a daily basis now ) Sincerely, Dave
