We love having Roy on our team because he is fun! As someone who grew up going to Youth Unlimited/YFC centre in Listowel he has a deep understanding of the impact we can truly make in the lives of the youth we work with. Here’s an update from Lauren on one of the youth groups we’re involved in: We’ve been continuing to meet online and have been working through the Sacred Pathways, but instead of us just teaching, we’ve been facilitating different activities for them to experience and explore each one. So far, I have lead an art therapy exercise for contemplatives, driven all over town delivering treats and gifts youth sent each other for caregiving, gone on a masked hike for naturalists, and we played a rousing game of Yoda or Proverbs (as well as a more serious activity) for intellectuals. Online youth ministry can be a lot more work but we are making the most of it and praising God for the technology that is keeping us connected.

The best thing we get to do as YFC staff is support and mentor youth 1:1, especially when it's over coffee! These moments allow space for meaningful conversations and provide the greatest opportunities to build into the lives of the youth we work with. We love being able to bless our students, volunteers and community partners with gifts, and one of the best we have to offer is YFC SWAG! It might seem silly, but having a sweatshirt, hat or t-shirt from a program or place that feels safe to you builds a sense of belonging and community that we believe is very important! Not only that but it provides youth the opportunity to share about our programs with their friends. Last year one of our Cave students told us they were able to connect with someone new at school because they recognized the Cave swag they were wearing. This summer @paintwithpurposepwp held graffiti workshops at the legal wall at Riverside Park, which was a great way to meet up with current (and new!) youth while still following health guidelines. Since we already need to be wearing masks, why not paint something?! Covid has also provided opportunities to paint murals at other YFC locations while they were closed and our hope is that they spark conversations with the youth accessing those spaces in the future. Paint with Purpose is a program that aims to help youth discover their potential one spray paint can at a time and we hope you’ll join us this Giving Tuesday and help continue this great ministry! One thing we have the privilege of doing Is purchasing bibles for youth. We believe having your own Bible is so important in developing your relationship with Jesus! For many young people it is the first Bible they’ve ever owned, for others it’s an upgrade from a childhood Bible that no longer suits them. Bikes have been a great way to connect with youth outside through the summer and so we are excited to welcome @vernsbikes as the latest YFC program! Located at our 333 Elgin location, Vern’s Bikes teaches bike repair and maintenance for youth ages 13-19. Hands on programs like this are great opportunities to teach practical skills and help highlight a youth’s potential. Bike stands are an essential tool for teaching bike mechanics, and their portability makes this ministry even more versatile! Youth can come to the shop to work on their bikes, but we can also bring the shop to them and do repairs at the bike tracks! PWP has done it again. Here’s their latest work of art at a local church.

This staff highlight is bitter sweet because this week marks Evan's last week with us at YFC. In his role as ministry staff, Evan was involved in multiple schools and community programs. He consistently shows tremendous empathy toward every youth he works with and always brings energy and humour into everything he does. Please join us in showing Evan some love this week and wishing him all the best as he transitions to his new job. Congrats Evan, you'll be greatly missed!

We love having Caitlyn on our team because of the enthusiasm and energy she brings to everything she does. As Campus Life Director, Caitlyn primarily spends her time working in local schools, running a drop-in program, and facilitating a Christians in Action student group. She is also heavily involved in her youth group and does a lot of the behind the scenes work here at TriCity. Caitlyn is passionate about helping youth dive deeper into their faith and walking with them on their spiritual journey. "The other week I got to bring two youth from my church's youth group out to the spray paint workshop at Riverside Park. None of us had tried graffiti before so we had a great time just experimenting on the legal wall. While working on the legal wall at Riverside one of the youth decided to paint their skateboard!

Paint With Purpose - PWP has recently paired up with our new bike program that Josiah is leading to help get students’ attention at the park as well as attract some new students to PWP. Nick, Evan and Roy ran a free graffiti workshop at the Riverside park legal wall recently (a legal wall is a wall the city/community has dreamed legal to paint on). We saw lots of new faces and a few of the current PWP crew as well. The legal wall is right beside the skatepark and bike park so it just makes sense for the two programs to work together. We have more of these planned throughout the summer so stay tuned for more details!

With most of our usual summer programming canceled many of our staff are planning on investing more time in small group discipleship over the next season. If you know of any good bible studies or books geared toward youth we'd love to hear your suggestions in the comments below.

We love having Josiah on our team because he has such a caring heart for the team, this community, and the youth that we serve. He is compassionate, empathetic and a very strong leader. Josiah is passionate about creating opportunities for meaningful conversation and relationships, and above all, seeing each youth in the region know and follow Jesus. He is currently a core team member of The Cave, leads Salt (a leadership course for young men), is the host of a new weekly vid...eo series, and much more. Currently, Josiah has a deficit in his fundraised support, and is looking to add to his support team. Since we can't be out doing church presentations we decided to make short videos each month to highlight different programs and share how we've continued ministry throughout this pandemic. We’re excited to add Nick to the team this summer! In addition to helping out with Paint With Purpose - PWP programming Nick will mainly focus on working with Lauren at Catalytic Converters. We are so excited about the energy and passion Nick has already brought to the team and look forward to seeing the impact he will have on the future of these programs. Our YFC team is like family and we are so excited that it's growing by THREE this summer! Congrats Renée and Everett! We can't wait to meet these incredible kids! "This will be my last social media post for a few months as my husband Everett and I are taking a parental leave from our jobs to welcome our 3 kids home through adoption. Please keep us in your prayers as we go through this time of transition! I’m SO fortunate to work with an incredible team who support and encourage me. The other week Roy got to hang out with one of our former students Ross over lunch on a patio. It was a bittersweet day because we're saying goodbye for a bit as he moves west to get ready for school in the fall. He's been one of our most exciting and outgoing youth we've had pleasure to watch grow up within our YFC circle. He's headed to BC to attend Lifeteams, a school connected to YFC Canada that teaches young adults how to work in urban/city settings and how to reach the ...young people there with the gospel. At Lifeteams School of Youth Outreach our mandate is unique: to build a force of young urban missionaries who step into the world of marginalized and vulnerable youth across Canada with the life-changing love of Jesus. Lifeteams: School of Youth Outreach This is a dream come true for us at TriCity YFC! To see our students grow up to have a passion to reach others with the gospel! For those of you that know Ross you know his energy and passion is contagious! Ross is always the first to try and involve a student that may not feel they have a place, the first to bring the students together and move forward as a team/group and always the first to offer to pray! Ross has this way of praying that can only be explained as a team cheer and pre-game pep rally. The energy and excitement as this guy prays is infectious! Everyone would throw their hands in a circle as Ross would belt out prayers, finishing each one with "Alright guys,(everyone together would shout) 3-2-1 A-MEN!" We can only imagine what God has in store for this guy as he goes forward. Please be in prayer with us for Ross as he goes out west.

New Video is up! Hope you enjoy! Often times we hope and desire for a big moment of change. In fact, the basis of the lottery system preys on that desire. I too have thought change only happens with one big moment. But in reality, change does not come with one big moment. Lottery winners often lose all financial security they won even though they received more money then they would have ever earned in their life.
