Our at-home teeth whitening kits include a stronger bleaching solution than what you’d find in a store-bought kit. That means you’ll get a whiter, brighter smile in less time. And because our trays are custom-made for your mouth, you’ll get more effective results without the problems that come with ill-fitting one-size-fits-all trays.

Brushing with an electric toothbrush requires a slightly different technique than a manual brush. You want to let the spinning action of the electric toothbrush do the brushing for you and gently move it around to connect with all surfaces of your teeth. Ask our hygienist for brushing tips at your next check-up.

Night guards can protect your teeth while you're sleeping. Jaw pain, clicking noises or headaches in the morning might mean that you are grinding your teeth during the night. This can cause excessive wear and tear, including chipping or cracking. Ask us about a custom night guard to protect your teeth. (506) 451-1085

We love treating kids at York Dental Clinic! We try to make every visit as positive as possible and involve children and parents in their oral health. That includes demonstrating proper brushing and flossing techniques and evaluating and discussing risk factors for tooth decay or other oral health issues. In addition to educating patients and removing stains and plaque from the teeth, a children's dental exam may involve X-rays, sealants, fluoride treatment, pre-orthodontic evaluations, or restorations. Ever wondered the difference between a dental bridge and an implant? Dental bridges replace a missing tooth by attaching the bridge to the surrounding teeth using crowns or wings. They are a lower-cost solution and a good option if the patient has experienced bone loss where the tooth is missing. However, bridges cannot prevent further bone loss. They can cause strain on the neighbouring teeth and may need to be replaced periodically. A dental implant is a titanium screw pla...ced in the bone with an abutment and crown attached. The implant integrates with the bone for a stronger, more natural functionality and can prevent bone loss. Because it stands alone, it doesn't cause strain on the neighbouring teeth. A dental implant is also a longer-term solution for missing teeth with many implants lasting a lifetime. However, implants cost more than bridges and sometimes are not covered by insurance. Deciding between the two options can be tricky, so we offer to review all information with patients and look at any insurance policies to help them make an informed decision. Dental checkups are an essential part of maintaining good oral health. First, we remove stains and build-up on teeth above and below the gumline. Then we look for signs of tooth decay and gum disease, check the bite and jaw for problems, evaluate any new risk factors such as a change in medication, conduct an oral cancer screening, assess problem areas, and make recommendations for further treatment. Sometimes this involves taking a closer look with a dental X-ray. We also demonstrate proper cleaning techniques or provide tips to help patients reach any problem areas when brushing and flossing at home. Call us today to book a dental checkup (506) 451-1085!

People sometimes think sports guards are only needed for contact sports like lacrosse, hockey, rugby or martial arts, but athletes playing non-contact sports need protection as well. If theres a risk of getting hit in the mouth or jaw like baseball, basketball or soccer, or a risk of falling like skateboarding, skiing or snowboarding, then a sports guard is a good investment. Custom sports mouthguards are more durable and last longer than store-bought guards. We take an impression of the mouth and specially make each guard for a better fit. That means the guard is more comfortable - and more likely to be worn! Ask us about custom mouthguards today. Call (506) 451-1085.

People with diabetes have a greater risk of developing oral health problems such as tooth decay and gum disease. Dry mouth and higher blood sugar levels can contribute to these issues. The good news is that by keeping a close eye on blood sugar levels, brushing and flossing twice a day, and scheduling regular hygiene appointments, people with diabetes can significantly reduce the risks and improve their overall health.

Dental restorations come in many shapes and sizes to repair decayed or fractured teeth. Fillings are used to repair smaller areas of decay while larger areas may be addressed with an inlay or an onlay. Crowns are used when there is a large amount of decay or fractures. If the tooth cannot be saved then an implant-retained crown may be used.

Palatal expanders can be used while children are still growing to help widen the upper jaw. Widening the upper jaw can make room for adult teeth, reduce overcrowding, and correct a crossbite. A palatal expander can improve breathing by opening the oral and nasal passages and allowing the patient to breathe through the nose. If your child is aged 7-10, ask us about this and other early orthodontic treatments! (506) 451-1085

Looking for a quick snack to grab on the way to the beach? How about an apple and a handful of almonds? Youll get fibre from the apple and it will produce saliva that rinses away bad bacteria and the almonds will give you a boost of calcium and protein. Both are excellent snacks for your teeth.

New braces wearers should stick to soft foods like yogurt, pasta, or pancakes for the first little while. Once the braces start to feel more comfortable, it's safe to branch out. Cut up more challenging food into smaller bites to allow time to get used to it. Really hard or sticky foods should be avoided. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call!

Storing a toothbrush out in the open especially near the toilet exposes it to airborne germs and bacteria. Instead, store your toothbrush standing up inside a cabinet so that the water can drain in between brushings and its a little more protected.

We are aware of the WHO article regarding community spread and their recommendation to delay nonessential dental appointments. The CDA has stated that the WHO recommendation is not relevant in Canada since there is no wide spread community transmission. There is also no evidence of transmission through a dental clinic and dental clinics place infection control as their top priority in these difficult times. The CDAs public statement is available on their website: https://www.cda-adc.ca//stat/who_clarification/default.asp

We all know that sugary snacks are bad for your teeth, but do you know how to identify high-sugar content using the product labels? Sugar goes by many names, including corn syrup, corn sweeteners, dextrose, fructose, glucose, sucrose, honey, maple syrup, and molasses. A quick rule of thumb is to avoid foods that list any form of sugar as the first ingredient. Choosing options with lower sugar content will help to keep you and your teeth healthy.

Researchers have found that people wearing traditional dentures or have not replaced missing teeth have a higher risk for malnutrition because its more difficult to chew fruits, vegetables, nuts, and meat. This means they sometimes avoid these nutritious foods. If you suspect this is a problem, please talk to us about dental implants. Theyre a strong, long-term solution that lets you eat anything youd like even steak, apples, and corn on the cob!

Toothbrushes come in many different shapes and sizes. Thats because our mouths are all different. When buying a toothbrush, try and get one that can reach all areas of the mouth. Some people have smaller mouths, so a brush with a smaller head works better. Sometimes it can be challenging to reach the back molars, a toothbrush with angled bristles can help solve this problem. No matter the size of your toothbrush, always opt for a soft-bristled option unless otherwise instructed by your hygienist.

It only takes 24-36 hours for plaque to harden into tartar. Once plaque becomes tartar, it is bonded to the tooth enamel and only a dental professional can remove it. However, flossing once a day, every day can help prevent plaque from hardening into tartar.

Popsicles are a perfect treat for a hot summers day - but they can be packed with sugar! An easy recipe for a healthy, tooth-friendly version includes plain yogurt, which is packed with calcium, and low sugar berries such as strawberries or raspberries. Using the blender, liquify one cup of berries and combine with a half a cup of yogurt and freeze using a popsicle mould. Simple and delicious!

When placing the floss between the teeth, its important to be gentle. Snapping the floss into the gums can cause damage and recession. Also, we want to avoid forcing bits of plaque or food between the teeth. Use a gentle zig-zag motion to get the floss into the correct position for flossing and if the floss doesnt want to go in, dont force it. Remember to floss every day!

Brushing too hard can wear away enamel. To get the right amount of pressure, try to imagine youre brushing a tomato. If you brush too hard youll strip the tomato of the skin. Light pressure will keep your teeth and the tomato clean and intact.

Nail biting is one of those habits you probably never realized affects your teeth. Cut your nails short or have your nails professionally manicured. 2. Keep your hands busy with something else knit, click a pen or squeeze a stress ball. ... 3. Chew sugar-free gum. 4. Practice stress-relief strategies like meditation. 5. Notice what triggers you to bite your nails and brainstorm ways to cope. See more
