YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre gratefully acknowledges the assistance of the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Museums Assistance Program (MAP) in an important photographic preservation project that we have underway. Youthlink’s collection houses 25,000+ historic negatives ranging in size from 35mm film to large format glass plate negatives with creation dates from the late 1800s to the 1970s. Many of these negatives are showing signs of degradation through vine...gar syndrome and other associated chemical deterioration. This collection represents a unique and important part of Calgary's history, one that cannot be replaced or replicated by any other institution. Ensuring its long term preservation is a high priority. Through the generosity of the MAP grant, we have been able obtain laboratory refrigeration units that store these negatives thereby delaying the onset of inherent vice, and in some instances, preventing further deterioration. Thanks to the Department of Canadian Heritage, these negatives and the stories they represent will be preserved for generations to come. // Ce projet a été rendu possible grâce au gouvernement du Canada. We love connecting with educators to share real intel straight from the Calgary Police Service on important Safe for Life topics. This year, the CBE Support Staff Convention looked a little bit different. While we were not able to join together in person, our messages still encompass the same gravity. Thank you for contributing to important discussions surrounding cannabis, gangs and online safety. We look forward to another day of learning and great conversation!

The power of partnerships A Calgary teacher reached out to YouthLink because she was concerned that some of her grade 6 students were getting involved in high risk lifestyles. We knew the impact our Safe for Life Live Stream could have on this class so we brought in a subject matter expert who could talk about the signs of recruiting techniques and the dangers of gang life. Cst. Curtis is a member of the Calgary Police Service Gang Suppression Unit and deals with individual...s involved in organized crime every time he hits the streets in uniform. He understands the importance of crime prevention programs and considers his work with YL a success if he can prevent even one youth from joining a gang. We are so grateful for our partnership with Calgary schools and Calgary Police. It allows us to tackle the issues young people face head on and bring in experts who can speak first hand to these problems. See more

#lestweforget The names of six @Calgarypolice members who gave their lives in service of their country can be found in the Field of Crosses. An insignia marks their crosses, like that found on the cross of Lance Corporal Hainstock. He was serving with Calgary Police when he signed up to bravely fight in World War One. He died January 1, 1920. #WeRemember #sacrifice

Today marks another sombre anniversary, the death of 27-year-old Constable Ken Delmage in 1957. Just over two years after becoming a police officer, Constable Delmage was killed in an on-duty motorcycle accident. While en route to a traffic accident call, he was thrown from his motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries. Long interested in policing, prior to joining CPS, Ken had served as a Constable with the Canadian Pacific Railway Police. He was an avid athlete and had garnere...d a reputation as a skilled and sportsmanlike player on the Calgary Police Hockey team. Following his death, the hockey team created the Ken Delmage Memorial trophy to be awarded to the player who demonstrated a combination of the greatest skill and the highest calibre of sportsmanlike behaviour. In response to this tragedy, the Calgary Police made it mandatory for motorcycle officers to wear helmets. Ken left behind a wife and two children. Honoured and remembered. #yyc See more
