"The Lord Buddha said, 'Bhikkhus. May you all live in such a way as to have a refuge. Do not live without a refuge.' Living in such a way as to have a refuge means connecting with the four foundations of mindfulness. Cultivating meditation to see clearly, using the four foundations of mindfulness. This is how we obtain supreme refuge." -- Ajaan Tong Sirimangalo

Trying to find inner peace during these difficult times? The Tourism Authority of Thailand is pleased to present a virtual meditation event on October 31, 2020,... at 9 am EST with well-respected Monk Ven. Yuttadhammo Bhikkhu. This virtual event is focusing on using meditation and mindfulness techniques to help people get through the uncertain world we are living in. These techniques can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. We believe once people can find their inner peace, they will share positivity and uplift the energy of our world. To put it another way: if it's easy, if it's not challenging your beliefs, your attachments, your biases, ultimately everything you hold dear, what exactly is it for? Enlightenment upends all of these things. Don't be discouraged when it's hard, be encouraged that you are challenging yourself like an Olympic athlete training to extend beyond their limitations.

Meditation is hard; that's not a problem, that's the point of it.

"If you would like to already subscribe and listen to the first two podcasts on the series on the Dhammapada, then please take a look at https://podcast.sirimangalo.org/ . It should already be possible via Itunes, Spotify, an application that can read RSS Feeds or by going to individual web blog linked there. Clicking on the blue "Subscribe" button should prompt you with several options for other apps that you could install or already have in order to subscribe. Please tell us if you experience any technical difficulties."

Others mistreating us isn't in fact the cause of our suffering; it is the cause of theirs.

'Thus, from the not giving of property to the needy, poverty became rife, from the growth of poverty, the taking of what was not given increased, from the increase of theft, the use of weapons increased, from the increased use of weapons, the taking of life increased and from the increase in the taking of life, people’s life-span decreased, their health decreased...' -- DN 26

Don't let your reactions to the dangers of samsara be based on greed, angry, fear, or delusion. Base them on mindfulness and wisdom! https://youtu.be/721c9OUHEVI

Our centre is closing to visitors until May. People interested in meditation are invited to take an online course at https://meditation.sirimangalo.org/ Physical isolation can help prevent and cure sicknesses in the body, but mental isolation is necessary to cleanse sicknesses of the mind. May all be well.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, our centre is in need of, or could at least benefit from, a steward for the next two months. If there are any prior students interested and able, please let us know. It would mostly just involve making sure meditators have food and keeping the place clean. We could likely take care of the steward's transportation.
