Chef Kevin Korslick will welcome his friend chef Matthew Ravenscroft to 100 Acre Wood where he and his wife Mary Wood have been running custom events for the past three years. The two chefs, who are well-versed in the art of drawing magic from vegetarian cuisine, will create a multicourse menu inspired from the canon of My New Roots recipes. Courses will be paired with local natural wines, and garden inspired non-alcoholic creations. 7 courses!!! 7!!!!!!! All profits from this event will be donated to All Welcome Here Pec, a BIPOC-led, non-profit organization focusing on anti-racism in a consciously intersectional way in Prince Edward County, ON. Andrea is a local ceramicist who happens to teach at a studio that I go to. She patiently gives direction, and shares her own curiosity and love for using her hands to make things, it’s all very inspiring. The sculptures and art she makes from literal earth are remarkable. Andrea has this quiet confidence, this knowing that she is where she needs to be right now, something not many of us posses, something we may want to begin to strive towards and lean into. Andrea shares al...l she knows with her community. She’s been involved in multiple local art projects, and is constantly looking for ways to engage. Rob is always someone I’ve been curious about in our community. He owns and runs the Gym in the Armoury, a boutique gym aimed at helping folks in the community get stronger. Something has always stood out to me about the business Rob has built: He has never used before and after shots, he’s never tried to sell a certain body type as ideal, he’s never focused on a certain age group or mobility as a preference... it’s as inclusive as it gets. Mel and D’Ari are two of the most chill people. As local county residents they DJ together around town, play a couple of fun sets a year if you’re lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, they host a local radio show, and are working on the release of new music. They always seem to have huge smiles and are ready to bring the fun. Beyond their own musical intiatives, Mel and D’Ari co-founded a not-for profit, Darkspark (@officialdarkspark ), that uses tools of... pop culture - song, storytelling and film - to support youth around the world in building cross-cultural understanding and dialogue around prevalent social issues related to race & injustice. Darkspark recently won the Intercultural Innovation Award from the UN and it’s work even caught the attention of President Obama. They are empowering youth of today to share their stories and their voices, encouraging intercultural dialogues, and ultimately moving towards a more inclusive world. The process of working with them on this shoot was humbling, they have so much to teach, so much wisdom to share, and so much patience with a world that is slowly trying to get caught up on the work they’ve been committed to for a lifetime. I am honoured to shared these photos and musings of two truly inspirational humans. We’ve been relatively quiet over here on the old gram! Arianne is such a beautiful soul. I first met Arianne when they were working on a docu-series many years ago. Since then I have come to know Arianne as a force, a living breathing embodiment of forward motion. Arianne is constantly working on new projects including documentaries, fundraising, creating art, speaking out about issues within the hospitality industry... they never stop. During the onset of Covid-19, a time when so many of us were just trying to figure out how to... get by, Arianne jumped into motion for their community and created the Toronto Restaurant Workers Relief Fund @trw_rf a not-for-profit that raises funds to support unemployed restaurant workers through providing them with groceries. On top of this huge fundraising effort, Arianne has been using their platform to challenge the hospitality industry to do better, creating the #ChangeHospitality campaign on social media. Arianne sends out newsletters, and is also working on a video project in which restaurant workers share stories of workplace discrimination. This is our community of Picton. A small town of 4000 standing up to racism. The majority of this town experiences deep white privilege- the latest stat I saw was that people of colour make up 5% of our population. There is SO much work to do. So much unlearning. So much introspection. There are deep rooted problems with whiteness, ones we have never considered because we profit off of these systems, ones I have deep shame surrounding. Yesterday the sidewalks were filled with powerful messages and a generation of people demanding change. A town of many white bodies holding themselves accountable and shining a light on our privilege- which was all the more apparent during an incredibly peaceful protest. We will continue to donate, to look within, to question our history, to unlearn, and to absorb. #pec4blm @blogboq @ Picton, Ontario

When we first opened our business we took photos of our own wedding and shared them to Instagram as our content because that was our intimate experience with weddings here at 100 Acre Wood. Since opening, weve shared photographs from real weddings weve hosted here, hoping they express the experience of 100 Acre Wood and the magic we create. Unknowingly, by only sharing photos the clientele we have worked with, we have projected a story of whiteness, of a perfect wedding bei...ng two straight white folk and their white best friends. I recognized this back in the winter and dreamed up this wedding photo shoot collaboration. It was going to be our very first creative photo shoot for 100 Acre Wood with the intention of celebrating all colours, shapes, sizes, ages, sexual orientations, social classes, and to show all of you who we feel deserves to be celebrated on this platform, and what love stories we intentionally want to tell. The shoot was scheduled for this spring, and right now its on hold for the safety of those involved, but please know that every story deserves this platform. If your love looks different than the photos we put forward, please know that we are going to do a better job at representing you. We see you, you matter, and your love is every bit as worthy. There were moments this week, when I felt like my heart was beating so fast, it might beat right out of my chest. The sadness of the state of the world, coupled with my own fears would mount to the point that I couldnt really recognize myself. Its hard on my body, its hard on my mind, its hard on those that I love. The thing is, those moments are smaller and less significant than these huge waves that wash over me. They usually start small, and build to this loud crashing..., all encompassing gratitude and joy, yes... joy. Its the wildest ride, but the more I let go and sink into it, the more I can enjoy the swells. I am not in control, and for the first time in my life, Im learning (because I have no choice) to let go and trust the process. This week I cried from fear once, but I cried from gratitude 3 times!!!! Thats 75% more joy and only 25% fear! Thats MATH yall. Im taking the win this week. Thank you to all of our couples who dissipate the 25% and bring on the huge waves of gratitude and joy. You make this wild ride so worth it. See more

Things are really different from how we imagined they would be this May. This weekend wouldve been our first wedding of the year, and instead we find ourselves in a very different world. A world where weddings as we knew them to be, are no more. A day that would be filled hugging and kissing everyone you love, is now a day that passes by with all the others. A space that is usually filled with laughter and tears, dancing and speeches, remembering and creating memories sits e...mpty. We wanted to remember this moment, and sit in it. To capture the feeling of this all. The isolation, the fear, the hope, the longing... the vast vast space of it all. 100 Acre Wood was born out of a desire for connection. Kevin and I wanted to create a space for love to grow, move and breathe. A place to foster new friendships and build trust. 100 Acre Wood was less of a business plan and more of a life model. Love, intimacy and connection are, and always will be essential. While everything is shutting around us, we are still able to foster connection and encourage love above all else. This year looks a little different for all of us. We are here, and always have been. 100 Acre Wood is searching for Event Servers for our 2020 wedding season. We are looking for candidates who: Have open availability on Saturdays from May-November.... Are Smart Serve certified. Have experience minimum 2 years serving and bartending in a professional setting. Have a friendly and open minded attitude and can find the beauty in every occasion. Attitude and experience are equally as important. Are physically fit (has nothing to do with looks - has to do with how much physical labour is involved in the position. We are on a 100 Acre Farm, and there is lots of lifting, walking, clearing etc). A bit about the position: We host weddings every Saturday from May until November. All planning, set-up, tear down, bartending and catering is done onsite by our team. We work with local produce, wine, beer, and spirits. Shifts are typically 8 - 10 hours in length and begin anywhere between 2pm-4pm. Compensation starts at $18/hr plus gratuity. Tasks include but are not limited to: setting tables, polishing glassware, serving food, serving drinks, clearing tables, communicating with guests, communicating with the kitchen, communicating with vendors, cleaning the venue, stocking the bar, and ensuring a safe and happy environment for guests. 100 Acre Wood is searching for a CDC for the 2020 season. If you value work-life balance, a positive environment, tasty treats and fair wages, then this might be the right job for you. We do one event a week for 50-150 people.... We serve our meals family-style. We use primarily local ingredients. Most of our dishes are prepared with fire, whether it be out of our wood-burning oven, smoker or charcoal grills. The kitchen itself is spacious, in almost new condition with lots of fresh country air and natural light. Did I mention we also grow a lot of our ingredients? The commitment would be Mid-April to November 2020, about 29 weeks, and we require 100% commitment for all events. Your workweek would generally be Wednesday-Saturday, depending on what night of the week the event falls on. You will have evenings off except for event days. You would work 40-44 hours a week. Compensation is $29 an hour +vacation pay +tips +$500 bonus upon completion of the season. Overtime pay is $43.50 an hour. You should expect to gross around $40,000.00 for the season. We value your time, so dont expect to be inundated with phone calls, emails or texts. Attitude and experience are equally important. Ideally, you would have been working in a professional kitchen for the last 5-10 years, have mature communication skills and are up to date with current cooking techniques and food trends.
