WARNING: FOUL LANGUAGE AND FOUL PLAY - POACHING ON THE FRASER RIVER This is the harsh, unnecessary and sad reality on the Fraser River. This gillnet killed reproducing chum and chinook salmon as well as juvenile sturgeon. There is a a clear lack of leadership from government and in river monitors. The river is currently closed to all salmon fishing due to extreme concerns for some stocks. This illegal gillnet on the Fraser River this week is a common site. Even with limited... enforcement, hundreds of illegal gillnets have been confiscated by the DF0 in 2020 during historic lows of sockeye, steellhead and early timed chinook. Faith has been lost in this Liberal government to address this epidemic on the Fraser. Without robust enforcement and significant consequence, the killing will continue. Where are the politicians to address this continued appalling activity? Time is of the essence with the upcoming election we need to start pressing our electoral candidates for answers on: Chinook fishing opportunities to help coastal and local businesses. Pressure needs to be put on DFO and the federal government to adipose fin mark all current hatchery Chinook salmon and allow anglers to harvest them. Northern BC has seen dismal steelhead returns this year. What resources and funding is the provincial government going to offer?... Interior Fraser Chinook and Thompson River steelhead recovery plan is needed. The clock is rapidly ticking, window dressing and political posturing is not assisting these stocks, we need tangible action now. Please take the time to contact your MLA while salmon are a federal responsibility we need our provincial leaders to be leaders not only in recovery but also in allowing access to resources so important to B.C.

The Government of Canada and DFO Need a Wake Up Call The lack of competency and unfair, one-sided political decisions continue to put British Columbia’s Chinook salmon in jeopardy. Transparency and action is needed for a recovery plan. Read the article here => https://www.peacearchnews.com//anger-growing-among-b-c-sa/...
