Meet Katie Barron one of the cadets, originally from Cobourg Army Cadets - Corps 88 who was part of the Everest Base Camp Expedition 10 years ago. We caught up ...with the talented artist recently, and she shared what she is up to now, and what skills she she learned in cadets that still serves her well today. Where are you now? I am now living in Canmore, Alberta in the heart of the Rocky Mountains where I now work as an artist and spend time skiing, biking, and climbing in the mountains. What did Cadets teach you? Cadets taught me valuable skills in public speaking and leadership which has allowed me to professionally present myself as an artist during panel discussions and exhibitions. What advice would you give to this generation of cadets? My advice would be to take advantage of as many programs and opportunities that come your way. The friends and connections you make along the way will stay with you for years to come. Check out Katie's work at www.ktbarron.com #CadetAlumni

10 years ago a group of cadets and officers embarked on the adventure of a lifetime when the International Army Cadet Expedition went to the Everest Base Camp. ...Over the next couple of weeks stay tuned while we share where they are now, the impact cadets had on their lives, and what they want to share with this generation. Meet Lucas Mayo, who was a cadet at 2701 Army Cadets, in Winnipeg, Man. What am I up to now? I'm currently in my 10th year in the army with the PPCLI. I've deployed twice, to Afghanistan and the Ukraine. I'm currently posted to Winnipeg at Minto Armouries as Regular Support Staff(RSS) for the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. My wife Nathalie is an officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force, I’m also on a French course at the moment. Something I've learned as a cadet was discipline and overall pride in wearing the uniform. Showing up on time ensuring your boots were shined uniform was ironed and beret formed properly as well as the discipline involved in drill helped me a lot when I first joined the army and continues to serve me well. Advice I would give to a current cadet: I would encourage you to take advantage of every opportunity cadets offers you. Whether it's summer camp expeditions or even the poppy drive everything you do in cadets gives you experiences that will help you for the rest of your life. #CadetAlumni Canadian Army Northwest Cadets

The decades since the Battle of Vimy Ridge have slipped by, but the legacy of the Canadians who accomplished so much in that important First World War battle li...ves on. Some say that Canada came of age as a country on those harsh April days in 1917. Cadets and JCRs have always played an important role in remembering this battle at cenotaphs across Canada, and at Vimy Ridge. In these unprecedented times we invite Cadets, JCRs, their families, staff, and volunteers to take part in a virtual moment of remembrance. To participate in this important act of remembrance we ask that on April 9th, at 8PM, in your local time zone you: Wear your ceremonial dress uniform (C1 for Cadets and 1A for staff, green sweatshirts for JCRs) at home Light a candle or use a virtual candle Wear a poppy if you have one Observe two minutes of silence Take a selfie or image and tag @CadetsCa on either Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #RememberVimy Although we are apart, we can come together and show our respect for this important battle that helped to shape our nation. #StrongerTogether

As we head into the long weekend - we are thankful for the Cadets, staff, and volunteers who have remained resilient. If this is an area where you need help, make sure to download the CJCR App for a variety of resources in the App Store or on Google Play.
