SIGN & SHARE: Students and recent graduates are being hit hard by the second wave. We need immediate action that provides COVID relief and strengthens post-secondary education. Don't Forget Students and the Canadian Federation of Students have launched a petition calling for just that, and it's been sponsored Laurel Collins, MP for Victoria. With your support the government will have to respond: https://bit.ly/331w6Th What are we calling for? Extending the CESB and includin...g international students. Including all recent grads in COVID relief programs. Freezing student loan payments and committing to major debt relief. Expanding federal funding for grants and PSE institutions. #DontForgetStudents #cdnpse #cndpoli
Today, on the annual Trans Day of Remembrance, we remember those who have lost their lives due to transphobic violence. We must all work to eradicate transphobia and to make educational institutions, and all our spaces, safe for trans people. The Continuing Education Students Association of Ryerson (CESAR) is inviting you to be a guest speaker to speak about racism in Canada. The first of a six (6) part series of conversations with Carol Sutherland, CESAR VP Services and Finance, discussing Poverty and Health Amongst Young People. The conversation will address poverty, lack of housing, access to equitable medical services and the impact on the most vulnerable in our society. Guest Speaker Dr. Pria Nippak is an As...sociate Professor and Director of the School of Health Services Management at Ryerson University. In addition, she is the Academic Coordinator of the Health Informatics, Health Studies and Health Services Management Certificates, which provides her with many opportunities to support students through their training. Check out: https://mycesar.ca/event/povertyhealth/ for more information and registration!
It has come to our attention that the Ryerson Students’ Union (RSU) has laid off the full-time Centre for Safer Sex and Sexual Violence Support (CSSSVS) Coordinator, terminated the part-time staff and cancelled all the shifts and opportunities for volunteers in the midst of the Month for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. CESAR finds these actions disturbing and reprehensible in the strongest terms. Check out http://www.mycesar.ca/csssvs for CESAR's full statement!
CESAR is concerned with the lack of communication and planning relating to the implementation of the Anti-Black Racism Campus Climate Review Report. In email communication listed below, CESAR has indicated a number of concerns relating to the timeline of the request to promote an advisory committee, the structure and supervision of the advisory committee, and the protections for Black students in the advisory committee. The University responded with a non-answer to any of the questions. Check out: http://mycesar.ca/ABRadvisory/ for our full statement.
