Beaver Lake Cree Nation 28.11.2020

Down to zero active cases for BLCN today! No pending results. We do have close contacts currently completing their isolations but our situation has vastly impro...ved over the past two weeks. Lac La Biche is now down to 61 active cases. New cases will continue to arise province-wide for some time. It is important to keep protecting ourselves, our loved ones, and our community. The restrictions put in place by the pandemic committee and BLCN leadership, along with a rapid response to new cases and the continued effort of community members will help keep our numbers low. Information packages were/are being delivered to every home in the Nation. Please read through the information and take the restrictions and recommendations seriously over the holiday season. Every additional contact with someone outside of your household increases the risk of you bringing COVID-19 into your home. The vaccine is here, healthcare professionals have started getting vaccinated and this will also help protect the most vulnerable. I will post vaccine-related information in coming days and weeks. The days of hugs and handshakes will return. The more we adhere to the restrictions now, the sooner these times will come. Testing and management of COVID-19 cases will continue throughout the holidays. Call/text 780-520-1553 for any COVID-19 related questions in BLCN. Testing is also available by calling 811 or online at: https://myhealth.alberta.ca//COVID-19/Pages/Assessment.aspx If you do get tested outside of BLCN please let BLHS nurses know by calling/texting 780-520-1553. This is to help manage the situation quickly. AHS will not alert us of a positive result in a timely manner. Thank you for your cooperation, we know it’s not easy! We appreciate the effort. We will continue updating you throughout the holidays. Please take note that the Alberta Indigenous Virtual Care Clinic have changed their poster and have expanded their hours. This is open to all Indigenous Peoples. Also, take note of the contact information for our essential services. The main phone line will not be operating throughout the holidays. Thank you and have a great night!

No new cases in BLCN today, still at 4 active cases. Lac La Biche is down to 77 active cases. The numbers in the province remain high with 1738 new cases today,... a total of 123 people in ICU and a total of 684 deaths. Please continue being careful. Lots of people out running errands. It’s important to distance yourself from others, wear your masks, wash your hands, disinfect your spaces and stay home if you can. Reminder that gatherings are prohibited due to the high risk of spread during gatherings. Additional restrictions will be put in place starting Dec 13. These restrictions are available here https://www.alberta.ca/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx I will be posting updates over the weekend if any important changes occur otherwise, the next update will be on Monday. Have a great weekend everyone, stay safe.

Good evening! No new cases for BLCN today, still at 4 active cases. We are getting a lot of negative results back which is great news! Keep up the efforts, it i...s helping reduce the spread. Lac La Biche is now at 86 active cases. An outbreak was declared at the Lac La Biche Hospital. Please note that you can still access services there and you should not refrain from seeking medical help if you feel you need it. I have also attached a picture with information on how to access the Alberta Indigenous Virtual Clinic for appointments with doctors via video or phone - excellent service, excellent doctors. Have a good night!

On behalf on Gregory Cummings, Chief Zone Officer, I wanted to share that an outbreak was declared for William J. Cadzow Healthcare Centre, after three individu...als associated with the facility have tested positive for COVID-19. An outbreak has also been declared for the George McDougall-Smoky Lake Healthcare centre, after two individuals associated with the facility have tested positive for COVID-19. Contact tracing for anyone potentially exposed to these individuals is ongoing. The situation is under review by the Medical Officer of Health, Infection Prevention and Control specialists, site leadership and AHS Workplace Health and Safety. William J. Cadzow Healthcare Centre and George McDougall-Smoky Lake Healthcare Centre remain a safe places to receive care there is no increased risk to patients coming to the hospital. Any patient with symptoms, or who has tested positive for COVID-19, is isolated and treated in designated rooms. Patients within the hospital will continue to receive the treatment, care and support they need. To keep everyone safe, only family/support persons will be allowed to visit for end-of-life or other extenuating circumstances. All AHS facilities, including the William J. Cadzow Healthcare Centre and George McDougall-Smoky Lake Healthcare Centre, follow rigorous Infection Prevention and Control standards. All healthcare workers are asked to self-assess for COVID-19 symptoms and exposure risk using a screening tool before reporting to a site for their shift, and our frontline teams are practicing continuous masking while at work.
