Great steps forward! And the first in Canada. Thanks MLA Mike Ellis for this, and Minister Madu for making it happen!
Political Theatre. I had heard this when I first got here as an MLA. It’s a phrase that the opposition used over an over to describe what was taking place in the Legislature. After being here now for a year and a half....I get it, and it’s apparent. They are all about the Video Clip used for social media... We are trying to get the economy moving again with as little government debt as possible. COVID is making that challenging for the moment, but in the long-term, we are... undeterred. Doing this means creating an environment where businesses can grow. When businesses grow, they gain more wealth, and pay more taxes. Likewise, they tend to hire more people, who in turn, pay taxes. These taxes are what is needed to fund government spending health care, education, and other social programs; not money we don't have. This is what we are aiming for. It is hard right now, we know. It is only through growing the economy that we can sustainable fund the critical programs we need. Sometimes I think people forget that after Alberta was debt free, one of the first things that Premier Klein did was begin planning on the Mazankowski Heart Institute in Edmonton. We can build these kinds of things with now debt, and a strong economy, and we are aiming to do it again!
At nearly every "What Matters to You" town hall we held this year the topic of privatized health care came up. Because that was the scare tactics being used out there Having health care in a doctors clinic vs having the work done in the hospital. That is what was being construed as Privatized. We have had that system in place for as long as I can remember.... Same doctor same cost code for service, a clinic just does not have the overhead of a hospital, so that would free up more money for the healthcare system...and reduce wait times. Here is a clip from the discussion at the Duffield event that sum it up pretty well.
