After an 8.5-year journey, the Prince George 2015 Canada Winter Games Host Society has officially dissolved. Earlier today, the Host Society held its last meeting to sign dissolution papers, review finals audits, and to present its final surplus and legacy plans. As a result of the 2015 Canada Winter Games, a total of $1.1 million in legacy funds were generated, with $500,000 identified as a Pre-Games Legacy Fund. The remaining surplus of $600,000 will now be provided to the... Northern BC Community Sport Development Society to help support northern athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers. Additionally, the Host Society has also established an MOU with Pacific Sport Northern BC that transfers the Novak Family Legacy Wall fundraising initiative to Pacific Sport Northern BC, to help raise funds to support, promote and develop Northern British Columbia sports organizations, athletes, officials, coaches and volunteers. Commissioner of Official Languages has high praise for the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Here is what he had to say during a recent Standing Committee on Official L...anguages meeting: By planning and investing time and effort, it is possible to ensure that francophones and anglophones travelling across the country will be able to fully participate in celebrations that give both official languages their rightful place. For example, I would like to talk about what was done in Prince George for the Canada Games. A fairly remote community in the middle of British Columbia made a major effort to ensure that the games provided a welcoming atmosphere for francophone and anglophone athletes and their families. There were signs, manuals, announcements and documentation in both official languages. It was a huge success. Their best practices can be used by other communities planning celebrations for 2017.
