MAYOR LARRY CHARTRAND On January 14, 2020, Mayor Larry Chartrand passed away. It was a great loss to not only the Council, where he was a very active Mayor, but to the whole community. Larry dedicated sixteen years to the Community Council both as a Councillor and a Mayor.... Larry was committed to working towards the betterment of the community. During the time we had a Recreation Program in the community, Larry donated his honorariums towards the support of this program. When we had the major floods, Larry pushed hard to ensure that the community received the funding and support that benefitted many residents. In the midst of the flooding, Larry was on top of everything from water level readings, homes needing diking and rebuilding a section of the South Waterhen Road so that families living down this road would not left stranded when it floods. Larry was involved in every aspect of Council, right from the business side, to delivering meals to the Seniors who couldn’t make it to the Seniors Christmas Supper, and supporting the Little Waterhens Day Camp. Larry was never one to back down from dealing with government agencies on any issues that would improve or enhance the community. His knowledge of how government works and the contacts he had made will be missed by the Council. Larry was also a member of the Northern Association of Community Councils (NACC). At the time of his passing, he was chairperson for the Western Region. This is just a small overview of what Larry was involved in he took his position seriously and did an excellent job as Mayor. We extend our deepest sympathy to Bonnie and family. He will be greatly missed, near and far.
