What a treat! One of our favourite bagpipers, Chief Mitch Bain former Pipe Major of the Seaforth Regiment played a festive medley for us on his bagpipes at the close of our online Ortona Dinner. #2277corpslangley #armycadets #bagpipes #bagpiper #pipemajor #virtualconcert

Remembering & learning about the Seaforth Highlanders and Loyal Edmonton Regiments who fought in the Battle of Ortona during the Second World War. Their officers managed to provide a Christmas dinner for the soldiers and they ate in turns while the battle raged. #armycadets #seaforthhighlanders #2277corpslangley #christmas #canadianhistory #weremember

Here’s an old news story about three brothers from Straiton, BC, who all served during the Second World War - Sgt. Howard Jones on the far right with the Seaforth Highlanders. These gents are the great uncles and grandfather of our army cadets C/WO Corr & MCpl Corr. Do any other cadets have family who served with the Seaforths? #seaforthhighlandersofcanada #seaforthhighlanders #2277corpslangley #weremember #canadaremembers #fraservalley #abbotsford #straiton

We remember. It seems very odd not to be heading to a Cenotaph this morning, but we can remember by following virtual Remembrance Day ceremonies and reading about the fallen and veterans online. Take a moment to read about this Seaforth Highlander, Chappie. Thank you to The Reach Gallery for sharing his story today: Posted @withregram @thereachgallery THE REACH REMEMBERS "24-year-old Ellsworth Chapman, "Chappie," was a millwright at the Abbotsford Lumber Company Mill... Lake site when he enlisted in the Seaforth Highlanders in February 1916. He was put into active duty in August. He was hospitalized after being gassed at Vimy in 1917 but recovered enough to be returned to active service. Canadian troops suffered enormous loss of life overcame almost unimaginable hardships to win an impressive victory in the fall of 1917. Canada’s great victory at Passchendaele came at a high price. More than 4,000 of our soldiers. including Chappie died in the fighting." Poppies can be purchased at The Reach Gallery Museum (32388 Veterans Way), the Abbotsford Legion Branch 15 (2513 W Railway St) and Sevenoaks Shopping Centre (32900 S Fraser Way) near The Bay entrance in the mall. Just a friendly reminder that on Wednesday, November 11th from 10:30am-11:30am, the Abbotsford Legion and City of Abbotsford would like to encourage our community to honour our veterans and respect their health through watching the ceremony online, wearing a poppy, and placing a poppy in their window. Tune into the live-stream on November 11th at www.abbotsford.ca/remembrancelive Visit www.abbylegion.ca to learn more about how you can support our local veterans. #2277corpslangley #seaforthhighlanders #lestweforget #cabarfeidhgubrath See more
