So... today is International Mountain Day! The theme of International Mountain Day 2020 is "Biodiversity." We in the Okanagan are truly blessed to have so many beautiful mountains with breathtaking views and incredible biodiversity. Did you know that British Columbia is the most biologically diverse province or territory in Canada? How lucky are we! ... To honour this day, we want to highlight a very well-known mountain: Mount Boucherie! Mount Boucherie is named after Isadore Boucherie, an early settler that farmed and raised livestock in both Rutland and Westbank. In the late 1880s, Isadore purchased the land which is still known today as Boucherie Ranch. The mountain behind this ranch was subsequently named after Mr. Boucherie as well (Gellatly, Dorothy Hewlett: A Bit of Okanagan History).
