Over the years there have been many students who have attended Northumberland Montessori School. Each student is unique in their own strengths and qualities. Each child remains dear to the hearts of those adults they have spent time with. It has been and is the goal of NMS that students develop a passion f...or learning, find school exciting and be in awe of the world around them. Students can achieve academic success beyond their age and grade limits. NMS is very proud of all the students, past and present. We will try to post former students’ journeys on our FB page. Today was a beautiful outdoor day. We took advantage of the snow and temperature and had a winter carnival which was planned by the Elementary students for the Casa children. Arts and crafts in the morning and outdoors there was a snowball toss, polar bear races, snow sculptures, snow cones with maple syrup and warmed apple cider. Sledding also happened... to be continued tomorrow

Happy New Year! Today is the first day back from holidays and everyone is so happy to see one another. We began the morning outdoors welcoming old friends and some new friends. The new students have settled in as if they have always been here. Kindness, caring and compassion from their classmates makes everyone feel welcome. We wish you a year full of happiness and health. Have fun doing what you do!

One of the most meaningful aspects of Montessori learning is our connection to animals and the natural world. At NMS, we have many animals the children help to care for, including guinea pigs, fish, outdoor rabbits, and cats. Of course sanitization policies follow. The love and joy the children have for these animals develops a compassion for life. This week, the children had an extra special friend visit... Mrs. Loveland's new puppy, Leia. The children had a wonderful time getting to know her. Happy howlidays everyone

October 30th the party begins... don’t be scared....,!!!! The homemade cupcakes will sweeten things.

Preparing illuminaires. The elementary students set the art table up and helped children with paints and paint shirts. Yes it’s a mess but out of a mess creativity evolves.

I know I need to post on fb, and it’s a habit I will take on. At times we’re so into the moment that the intent to post disappears. One day turns into 40 +... now I’ll play catch up and show you what we’ve been doing at Northumberland Montessori School the past few months over the next many days. All that has taken place has been a wonderful journey for all! We’ll start with Halloween and visit the experiences of days in the past.

Today we went to the Cobourg lLibrary to listen to comic author J. Torres. We bought his books, Teen Titans Go and How To Spot a Sasquatch. The students enjoyed listening to his engaging presentation. They asked questions and perused through his comic books. They came back to school inspired and started drawing their Comic books or writing their stories for Cobourg Library’s story writing contest with thought and vigour. It was a first bus ride for a few as well

Our first day of snow. Sssssss...Shovelling, sliding, slippery snowman making, snow cones with maple syrup, sledding on snow pants, soaking socks and sheer shrieks from children at snow splattering from the skies. Super memories!

CASA children enjoyed the pumpkin activities. Thankfully there are strong elementary children to carry the pumpkins into the classroom.
