Check out our new featured article to learn how (and why!) to incorporate functional #movement drills into your yoga. This infographic highlights diagonal block... swims to help strengthen your shoulders! Read more below and check out our link in our Story to get the full list of drills! Each of the exercises builds upper back and shoulder strength without putting onerous demands on the wrists. **Opportunities** This kind of movement, oscillating between left and right sides and isolating movement in each limb, is really healthy for developing body awareness, back-line strength, and shoulder mobility. This exercise is strongest and still relatively accessible when done from locust, but it can also be practiced sitting in a chair, in chair pose, or while standing. **Challenges** You will be stunned by how badly students want to move both arms at the same time! Emphasize that one arm moves, then the next, as the circle becomes a fluid movement of isolated parts.

T-BAR ROW - Common Mistake Watch this short video and save it for the next time you perform the T-BAR ROW exercise, it’s important to do it the right way, keep ...your back safe, avoid injury! The latissimus dorsi together with other shoulder extensors extend the shoulder joint. Actually, the stabilizers are the main target muscles Why do we flex the spine We do it because it's comfortable, it's easy and saves energy. We rely on our ligaments! So why not rely on our ligaments?! A fully flexed spine is associated with high anterior shearing forces. These ligaments are unable to withstand anterior shear force. Neither can the muscles of a flexed spine. When the spine is neutral, the lumbar erectors have the ability to produce posterior shear force, In addition, repeated spinal flexion is a high-risk factor for herniated discs. Shin splints can end an athletic career. They come in 2 varieties, anterior compartment syndrome (ACS) and medial compartment syndrome (MCS). ACS features the m...uscles that dorsiflex the ankle, the tibialis anterior and toe extensors. When they become stressed, the surrounding fascia tears away from the lateral tibia, causing severe pain. The cause is often weak quads. In NKT testing I commonly find the ankle dorsiflexors compensating for weak quads. In MCS the medial gastrocnemius/soleus becomes stressed, and the surrounding fascia tears away from the medial tibia. I often find weak glutes associated with this. When smaller muscles have to work for bigger ones, good things don't happen. Releasing an overworked/stressed area is good ONLY if you activate what it is over active for! Otherwise the brain will repeat that pattern infinitum. See more

Because the pec minor is such a powerful protractor of the scapula (the serratus anterior not nearly as much), it has a powerful effect on the state of the scap...ular retractors, the rhomboids, and mid and lower traps. This can cause not only poor posture, but decreased range of motion in the shoulder joint. Round your shoulder forward and try to flex or abduct your humerus. It's pretty tough. In NKT we often find the pec minor neurologically over active in relationship to the scapular retractors. This can leave the rhomboids "weak and tight", leaving that area very uncomfortable. Don't stretch the rhomboids! Release the pec minor then activate the rhomboid. Resetting proper motor control will produce much better outcomes. See more
