Health begins in the soil. It is strengthened or diminished by what's on our plates. Eat real, whole foods. Eat foods raised with care. Eat foods without toxic chemicals, additives, and funny ingredients you can't pronounce. Eat regeneratively. And thrive. #regenerativefarming #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativehealthcare #healthyfood Reposted from @regenerativeorganic

Big Decision #5 The Final : Prime Directive = Joie de Vivre We work hard. There is no doubt about that. But that doesn't mean that life should not be enjoyable. Therefore one of our top tenements will be Joie de Vivre, to bring fun into many of lifes moments. As part of our @hmi.holisticmanagement... training we are refining our goals and this has helped us define that joy in life is as important as prosperity or success. By making this part of our holistic goal we are prioritizing fun and joy to be part of our every day, no matter how hard the work is. #farmlife #funinthesun #funintheshade #funinsummer #funinwinter

Big Decision #4: Leadership Team We couldn't be more excited about the return of @anterra.vs and @ambs_spark to the farm to take on leadership roles. Since the beginning, we have been managing all parts of the operation between the two of us, which has been challenging. By having this team we will get more done with more hands, making lighter work for all. Having worked with these two amazing individuals has shown us thier commitment and dedication to thriving farms. We feel... blessed that they are joining us this year to assist in the management of various areas of the farm. Also they will be running small enterprises of thier own to grow thier knowledge and skills as young farmers. Proud and honoured to have them as the part of the team. #manyhandsmakelightwork #farmteam #youngfarmer #newfarmer #manitoulin #northernfarmer

Big Decision #3: On-Farm Market You asked. We listened. Starting this spring we will be open on-farm on Fridays 9- 4 and Saturday from 9-12. Open for folks to come and buy fresh produce or chicken as they wish or pick up an online pre-order for contactless pick up. ... You will be able to see where and how all our food is grown and get the super fresh produce at the same time. Added Bonus: we will be open the same hours as @burtfarmmeats so you can make the trip to Ice Lake and visit all your favourite farms at once. Making food accessible and engaging for everyone involved. We hope to see you at the farm this summer. #farmmarket #surprisestocome #localfoodmanitoulin #manitoulin #manitoulinmarkets

Big Decision #2 : Low Till In an effort to preserve, restore and rejuvenate the soil ecosystem, we have made a plan to move to a low-till system on the farm. This means that we will limit the amount of deep mechanical soil disturbances that damage the microorganisms and ecosystem that exists under the soil surface. This aligns with our organic production in building healthy soil that will feed the plants and feed us. This new system will mean more cover cropping, keeping the ...soil covered as much as possible, a permanent raised bed system and doing strategic crop rotations to reduce weeds while feeding the soil. We will be sharing our approach as we trial it this season. #lowtill #soilhealth #organicfarming #certifiedorganic #manitoulin #regeneativeagriculture

Today is World Soil Day. It’s a day to celebrate that all life on earth exists because of 6 inches of top soil. As an organic farmer soil is everything. When we nurture the life in our soil, we have healthier food. #worldsoilday #soilislife #singtoyoursoil #hugthatdirt #organicissoillove

Growing organically in the soil means a lot to us and to the environment. By growing food the way we do, we build soil biology that increase diversity, climate resilience and more nutrient density. Being certified organic means that we feed the soil, and in return the soil feeds us and all the beings on the land. It means we use no petroleum based inputs, no synthetic fertilizers, and low input energy, overall reducing our environmental footprint while improving the environm...ent for future generations. Thank you for believing in what we do and caring for the environment too. #soilgrown #certifiedorganic #climateresilience #soilfarmer

Lunchtime at the farm is always scrumptious but in fall we dive into chicken broth and soups galore. One of the favs is Tom Yum Soup with our carrots, radish and greens. Keeps us alive and breathing clean. #welovespicyfood #farmfood #manitoulin #localfoodmanitoulin
