You also have access to the 9000 sqfoot gym at total fitness in the building to work out and help keep yourself healthy. When your neck is used for breathing, it is a sign that you're in your emergency respiratory system. I call this Zone 3 Breathing. My mom is a severe asthmatic..., and she lives in New Orleans. She is well aware of her risks to contracting Covid-19. I grew up watching her gasping for air with her shoulders hiked up towards her ears and suffering so much. But she’s not the only one using her shoulders to try to suck air into the top of her lungs.This is a common breath pattern seen in the Startle Response it’s also a common pattern as anxiety starts to put a chokehold on you, and not allow you to breathe into your abdomen or ribcage (Zones 1& 2). But it’s also common to have high-stress Zone 3 breathing shape it’s way into our body simple because of the tension pattern formed by peering day and night into our computer screens, TV monitors and hadn’t-held screens. That fascial hand to neck connection starts to agglomerate a bracing pattern within your fascial tissues and you develop the armor of a Zone 3 Breatherwithout intending to be one. Stiff necks put the brakes on good quality breath. And they hijack peace of mind. I applaud all of you who are including breath practices more than ever now to manage anxiety, improve athletic output & recovery AND increase the health and resilience of your lungs. Let’s breathe. In a worldwide moment of realizing it’s the only thing that’s ever meant ANYTHING... Let’s breathe. For all the people in the world, struggling for every breath... Let’s breathe. To calm our fears and anxieties, and clear our worried minds... Let’s breathe. Let’s get back the unified force that brought us into this world as an individual, and the last thing we will do once we leave this world. Neck long, chin back, chest wide, ribs down, hips even. Inhale through the nose and into the sides of the ribs. No need to raise the worried shoulders. Let them be. Hold for a moment after that Inhale. Pause for a moments to appreciate what you built. Exhale, controlling the loss of air like a pin valve on a tire. Don’t just deflate the balloon. Control the loss. Feel the oxygen being delivered to every cell as you control that exhale. And once it’s done, pause. Don’t rush the next breath. Again, appreciate what you’ve delivered. Start in a 1:1:2:1 ratio of pranayama. If it’s too easy, increase the length at the numbers or change the ratio to 1:2:3:1. Enjoy and appreciate every moment. Together - Let’s breathe. #immaculatedissection
