Whether your doing a slow or fast transition we want to continue on your original protein (most of the time chicken) for about two weeks. We want to make sure the food agrees with them and that it is being digested properly and such! So continue on for a few weeks but remember to weight your kitty especially if they are a kitten! E...very 7-10 days they should be weighed and amount of food adjusted accordingly. Remember that feeding amounts are a guideline and each cat is an individual and may need adjustments! ANSWER: Our recommendations is to use the food within 2 days of opening the package as most pet owners will tend to defrost the product by leaving in on the counter-top which shortens the life span dramatically.
