Halfway there, fam! Although the temporary studio closure caught us by surprise, the 3SB community did what it always does - stayed RESILIENT! Online classes may not always be ideal but our students are still training, learning and growing with our instructors each and every class. We are so lucky to have such committed, eager and patient students and can’t express our appreciation for the parents enough too! Hang in there, friends - we’ll be back in studio before you know it.

Last month our studio participated in the second giving back initiative in the 10 steps online course: Indigenous rights and issues. In addition to the studio donation of 87 sandwiches for the Bear Clan Patrol to help houseless families across Edmonton, we also got to learn indigenous protocol teachings. We were so fortunate to have Jenna Werhun volunteer her time to teach both Lukas Lock and Sarah Dharshi over zoom, to share proper protocol. This was very helpful knowledge... and very important information, so please give it a watch til the end to help bring awareness about an important protocol in Indigenous culture. Thank you so much Jenna for sharing this with our studio! Lets keep this type of action going each month

THE HOTSEAT: Indigenous Peoples Rights & Issues As a dance studio existing in the Anirniq Ward on stolen Treaty 6 land, learning about Indigenous culture, resiliency and history is a priority. While the issues, challenges and stigmas that Indigenous people face are beginning to be universally acknowledged, there is so much more work to do in terms of learning, unlearning, listening, decolonizing, sharing and empowering. This is more than a month-long initiative, this is a l...ife-long promise. 3SB is committed to holding ourselves accountable in doing this work and will amplify and honour Indigenous voices as often as possible moving forward. Sarah Dharshi, Jenna Werhun and Lukas Lock have implemented educational, awareness and action elements in support of this cause and look forward to having 3SB on board. STUDIO ANNOUNCEMENT As per the new Government of Alberta restrictions announced today, 3SB will be participating in a 2 week studio shutdown, in hopes of flattening the curve and containing the spread of COVID-19, from November 13-27, 2020. All classes WILL PROCEED ON ZOOM during this time, please be vigilant in checking your class BANDs for links and updates. Tonight (November 12th), classes move forward as scheduled, but masks will be MANDATORY at ALL TIMES within ...the facility, including during class. The 10 Steps Til Impact program is off to an incredible start, and we are already BLOWN AWAY by our students’ efforts in our A Lil Goes a Long Way campaign. We are honoured to introduce our second initiative, Indigenous Rights and Issues, led by 3SB Instructor Sarah Dharshi and 3SB ambassador, FNMI consultant, Cree Language Arts teacher and Indigenous dance educator, Jenna Werhun. This initiative is multi-faceted and is focused on education, awareness AND action. This season, we’re seeing dance differently and are prioritizing what’s REALLY important - COMMUNITY. 3SB is taking part in the 10 Steps til Impact program this year, where we will be establishing 10 giving back initiatives in benefit of a variety of diverse causes. Each 3SB Instructor will be conceptualizing an initiative that offers time, money or effort to support a cause that is close to their hearts. As a studio, we empower them by learning about the selected ca...use and following their lead by taking action in solidarity. Our first initiative is called A Lil Goes a Long Way and is being led by Lukas Lock . One good deed benefits one person in need. We are asking for every student involved to donate one article of clothing, to be delivered to Goodwill Industries of Alberta. This simple gesture makes a huge difference and is an easy task to complete. This year, auditions and youth assessments will be taking place over the span of the first two weeks of classes, starting TOMORROW at the NORTH location (12611 127 St NW). This workshop targets inter/advanced students (minimum age 12, recommended for teens and adults) who are looking to challenge themselves and break out of their comfort zones. Auditions: Sunday, September 13/20, 2020. 12 PM. 3SB Creative Youth Centre (North) Mini Titans is an audition-based youth team for the young dancers looking to challenge themselves and expand their movement vocabularies, while also increasing their knowledge of hip-hop history, culture and dance. Cheers to new beginnings! Our students have shown resiliency and growth through the entirety of the 2019-2020 3SB competitive season and we couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments. On behalf of 3rd Street Beat administration, faculty and management, we want to thank each and every 3SB family for making our first ever virtual recital a roaring success, despite a few technical challenges along the way. We hosted hundreds of families online on Sunday, all of whom have showed unwavering support and loyalty during this period of distanced learning. We are extremely grateful for each and every one of you - the dancers and parents are the heartbeat of 3rd St...reet Beat and we could not have navigated the uncertainty of the last several months without you. We look forward to continuing to push forward with positivity and love - this includes aiding your registration process with 1 on 1 consultations with Luke, offering youth summer camps and workshops, implementing social justice educational initiatives and beginning the 2020-2021 season with gratitude, enthusiasm and motivation.
