"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" Challenging case where we utilized direct composite bonding and no freezing in order to idealize tooth shape, form, proportions etc. Patient had previous orthodontic treatment, congenitally missing the upper right lateral (1.2), upper left central (1.1) is severely discoloured and endodontically treated and previous bonding was deficient. Unfortunately due to financial constraints we were unable to consider orthodontic treatment, i...mplant and veneers however, with careful treatment planning the patient was happy with the results we were able to achieve. Where do I start. This has been the 4th week since I have been able to see my patients and do what I love, Dentistry. The state of emergency has been extended for 28 days where I'm from. I ran out of resin that I had at home while practicing on a typodont during self-isolation. I feel blessed that @3moralcare listened to the work i'm putting in and is willing to support a young clincian striving to be the best version of himself. INSTRUMENTS OF AN ARTIST: As dental artisans we dedicate our lives to imitate nature and restore smiles for our patients Self-isolation means I have had time to work on my craft from home. This has not only been therapeutic but key because many clincians that I look up to share similar qualities to an athlete. They have drive, are committed and laser focused on their goals. Think about the 10,000 hour rule by Malcolm Gladwell. The first time I heard @adamoelvis speak at DIA ...he mentioned about practicing until he can do a procedure with his eyes closed, that's the discipline of an athlete. Like Jordan's ability to hit free throws with his eyes closed. So what if we changed our mindset and thought of dentistry as a sport? "Practicing" on our patients is not PRACTICE. Our operatory is our arena where we perform on the big stage with all the bright lights. So what is the equivalent of a gym ... where do us dentist train everyday like an athlete? Does it look like staying late and being the last one in an empty operatory or a home studio where you can spend hours and find tranquility? While practicing at home I had something precious that I don't have in a clinical setting ... this is TIME. In my home studio I have time to really HOLD my instruments. Time to really FEEL the material. Time to ATTEMPT different techniques. Time to break down the mechanics of the process into elements and practice them with intention ... the concept of deliberate practice. As I hold and maneuver my LM-ARTE composite instruments from @styleitaliano_official I am falling in love with them. I purchased them from @biscocanada a while back and have been using them but never had the TIME to really HOLD them. As an artist your tool has to be an extension of you and your soul and these just feel right. Let's all use this challenging times to CHALLENGE ourselves. Push our limits in our "dental gym" because DENTISTRY didn't go anywhere! You don't have to miss it. It is here but just in a different form.
