Debussy and Rehab . I admit this one is a strange parallel, with me! 1 Learning Clair de Lune and rehabbing an Achilles rupture both take a solid 9-12 months effort. At least for someone with my (limited) capabilities.... 2 If I don’t practice several times a week, there is ZERO progress 3 A lot of factors can influence the day to day performance: sleep, fatigue, stress are just a few. Some days you just have to admit that it’s best if you call it a day, and the calf raise height or that perfect arpeggio is just not worth obsessing over. Tomorrow is another day! 4 If it wasn’t for the pandemic I would have never thought of asking myself can you learn this piece that’s clearly way out of your league? Similarly I don’t think I would have jumped around on park benches if the gyms were open BUT 5 Both challenges have changed the way I look at life. I have pushed through boundaries I never thought I was able to. Practicing the same movement 1878340 times is a humbling experience. Here is to putting in the work and trusting the process. . - Örsi ________________________________________________ #injury #injuryrecovery #injuryrehab #frustration #rehab #mindset #setbacks #piano #pianocover #learning #music #health #rehabtime #rehabilitation #selfcare #learningpiano #achillesrupture #achilles #tornachilles #achillestear #sportinjury #achillesrehab #dpt #physio #physiotherapy #physicaltherapy #anklerehab #416physio #416physioachilles See more

Tendon thickness after Achilles rupture 1 SOUND ON! We haven't figured out captions yet... 2 Listen to Hayley's beautiful voice .... Take away: After an Achilles rupture, regardless of surgical or non surgical method, the tendon will thicken and it is OK. This is different from the initial swelling during the first 2-3 months. With gradual loading, weightbearing and progressive strengthening, the tendon responds by becoming thicker, just like a callus on the skin. This is a pain free process and the body's natural response loading. . Have questions? 144 days . The number of days since I was last able to run. It was the morning before my achilles rupture. It's the longest I have ever gone without my favourite activity, but it took a serious injury to REALLY appreciate it, and not take it for granted. . Running has always come easy to me. It never occurred to me that there would be a time when I can't just lace up and go for a jog. I am filled with gratitude and joy that I can finish off this year running... well 3x15 ...seconds. You gotta start somewhere, right? . Lockdowns and gym closures over these past few months have made it extremely difficult to rehab this injury but I am lucky to be surrounded by some of the best physios and RMTs. The roughly 15000 calf raises I have done these past 10 weeks also helped. . Achilles rupture is a crappy injury both psychologically and physically, and there is just no way around the hard work. The rehab is quite dull, often weeks go by without noticing much change, but some days... some days are great. Today is a great day. . Here is to healthy 2021! Happy New Year! . When a PT needs PT . Did you know a physio needs a physio too? Despite doing the bulk of my rehab on my own, it is crucial to have a second (or even third) pair of eyes on me from time to time. Achilles rehab can be (is) dull, so it's important to spice things up and have a more objective perspective. . It's been almost 4 months since my Achilles rupture! Time sure does fly. We are not only working on calf strength but targeting global muscles and trying to make thin...gs functional! It is an odd stage, as it seems like I am able to do many things and still, I feel significantly limited and restricted by my injury. Single leg repeated calf raises are still very challenging, I also can't jog across the street to catch a light, or keep up with my hungry 15 year old dog. (The lazy 15 year old version is OK, she walks VERY slowly, but the one before dinner is highly motivated to get back upstairs ) . Growing muscles have never been my strong suit, and it continues to be an issue, especially with Achilles rupture, where the whole point is to regrow your calves... I have a few thousand more calf raises to go. . Have questions? Toe mobility . Why is having at least 65 degrees of big toe extension so important? When we are walking, running, climbing stairs we need to be able to push off through our toes&foot to help propel us forward. ... It is also essential in the windlass mechanism, which allows the plantar fascia and other arch supporters to tighten, allowing the foot to become a rigid lever for push off. Lacking this mechanism can overload the plantar fascia which can irritate nearby structures and cause heel pain. But lacking adequate mobility in the toe doesn't just affect the foot- it can lead to altered movement patterns higher up the kinetic chain!! For instance, the effects of limited big toe extension can travel all the way to the hip and affect its ability to fully extend. If you never extend your hip fully, you may loose some of the range and your glutes may become sluggish. . Use a tuneup ball or lacrosse ball for best results ( may work but it will slide more). . _________________________________________________ The posts are for educational purposes only, we recommend that you always see a qualified healthcare professional . #bigtoe #plantarfascia #plantarfasciitis #foot #ankle #footpain #healthandwellness #education #fitfam #movement #mobility #running #run #marathon #runningmotivation #runninginjury #fitness #strength #exercise #physio #PT #chiro #physiotherapy #physicaltherapy #chiropractic #sportsmedicine #torontophysio #dpt #416physio See more
