Guajillo chili. This cutie of a pepper is an integral part of Mexican cuisine. At 2,500-5,000 scovilles, it’s a mild to medium spicy pepper packed with flavour. Often used dried, the guajillo is the chili to use for adobo sauce. And that’s exactly what I’m gonna use it for. They’ll get dehydrated and wait for all the beautiful jalapeños to ripen to red. Then, the red jalapeños get smoked in this fancy (see very DIY) smoker until they’re nice and wrinkly. The guajillos then get made into lovely adobo that the newly smoked chipotle peppers will get canned in. Locally grown and produced chipotle in adobo sauce, I couldn’t be more excited to share this stuff with all of you. Stay tuned... #organicgardening #buylocal #chipotle

One of the most satisfying sights I’ve witnessed all year. This being the first year that I’ve grown tomatoes, I was a wee bit apprehensive about tomato bugs. Especially the tomato hornworm. They just devour whole plants in a few hours. At the beginning of the tomato season I started seeing (and squishing) them. After a week or two and a couple dozen hornworms, I stopped seeing them. I would continue to see a little bit of their damage here and there. But no worms. Then, as I... was out collecting tomatoes for my first ever restaurant order, I witnessed this picture. This is a hornworm being devoured by parasitic wasp larvae. No more squishing those juicy bastards! Such a satisfying sight. It also lets me know that I’ve got a good base habitat for all sorts of insects. This is super promising #organicgardening #tomatohornwormdies #biologicalcontrols See more

I took a half day off from this heat to actually cook some of the food I grow. With the help of the best fishmongers in Canada @hookedinc, here’s some seared scallops with breakfast radishes, cucumbers, bronze fennel fronds and flowers and a butt-tonne of chives. There a couple orange segments in there somewhere too (not from my farm...) Happy Sunday y’all!! #organicgardening #buylocal #eatlocal #scallopsarethefuckingbest #fancyflatware

The first centercut squash from @row7seeds. A hybrid of the stately trombonchino squash. Said to be nutty and meaty, I’m gonna give these a go on the grill.
