Today marks the 208th Anniversary of the Battle of Queenston Heights. In the early morning of 13 October 1812, American troops under Major-General Stephen Van R...ensellaer crossed the #NiagaraRiver and took possession of Queenston Heights. Major-General Isaac Brock hurried from #FortGeorge to lead a small force against the invaders and was killed in an attempt to regain the heights. In the afternoon, Major-General Roger Hale Sheaffe with his force of British regulars, militia, and First Nation Warriors from Fort George, strengthened by reinforcements from Chippawa, took the hill from the west flank, capturing 958 prisoners. Thank you for your participation in the Virtual Campaign of 2020. In this time of uncertainty a decision was made in late March that a physical camp would not ...be likely. Under the guidance of Major General Patricia Baker (camp chief), plans and virtual meetings were held every other Tuesday until September. A group of dedicated Scouters worked during that time to create; costume components, provide history, develop program for various ages. Some of the Scouters were able to travel to Fort George and Niagara on the Lake to create videos for use in the creation of the program. Without you, the participants none of this would have been created. Thank you for being part of the weekend, and willing to try a different type of camp. We are looking forward to 2021 and hope to see you in person next fall. See more

My Facebook memory last night reminded me that ten years ago on this very weekend, I was in beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, taking part in the Scout Bri...gade of Fort George. It was one of the highlights of my time as Chief Commissioner of Scouts Canada to serve as the SBFG’s Honourary Camp Chief. That weekend, I also became the Honourary Colonel of the Scout Brigade’s Royal Newfoundland Regiment. Another very cool honour. A decade later, the adventure continues. Last night, I had a chance to participate in the Scout Brigade of Fort George # 37 Virtual, and I hope to join in again tonight for a virtual campfire. I also hope to attend the event in person next year! Today, I’m taking part in a virtual meeting of Scouts Canada’s Board of Governors. We opened with a brief discussion on the virtual Fort George gathering that’s taking place right now. Scouts are resilient and creative 2020 is a year like no other, but we will persevere! Grateful for my Scouting friends and family. #ItStartsWithScouts

Saturday night program at the Scout Brigade of Fort George includes a hosting the scouters at the Head Quarters while the youth have a dance, complete crafts, trade badges or enjoy movie night!
