Scouting at Home Dear Scouts,, On March 14, Scouts Canada announced various actions that we are taking in response to the novel Coronavirus to ensure the safety and health of our Scouting community. While Section programs, events, camps and in-person activities are on hold across Canada until at least April 5, there are many ways that youth can continue to benefit from Scouting beyond in-person programming.... During this time of social distancing, Groups can stay active by encouraging youth to keep developing well-rounded skills through fun activities at home. Each week, Scouts Canada will provide a ScoutScene Scouting at Home edition to keep our community engaged, while maintaining health and safety practices. With Trail Cards, ideas for STEM initiatives and Outdoor Adventure Skills to learn from, our Scouting at Home tips are easy to put into play at home or online. Scouting at Home is also a great way for youth to continue learning outside of the classroom, while having fun along the way. Through social media channels (#ScoutsDoStuff), or distributing photos amongst your Section through email or a Group Facebook page, your Group can stay connected. Encouraging families to share photos of their kids’ Scouting activities at home is also a great way to keep parents engaged. Sections and Groups can also keep shouting the Scouting spirit by connecting with international Scouts or Groups across Canada virtually to share stories, experiences and best practices. This is another way to continue Scouting during times that prevent in-person engagement. From April 35, the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) is hosting a special edition of Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) to connect young people, virtually, around the world. Lastly, we are reminded of our Promise, as Scouts, to help others at all times, especially those who are vulnerable. While maintaining social distancing and safety, we encourage our members to support each other; stay in touch with family, neighbours and friends through digital means, mail or phone. You can also discover the WOSM's summary of various actions Scouts and Girl Guides around the globe are taking to support others during this time. From sending letters of appreciation to frontline health staff, to participating in virtual learning sessions to discuss ideas for how to respond to and raise awareness of COVID-19, these ideas will inspire ways to give back. As the Minister of Health, Patty Hajdu, reminds us, The same messages we learned as children apply now. Share, be kind, ask how you can help. While Scouts Canada continues to monitor the situation and follow the direction of government and health agencies, we will keep our Novel Coronavirus Update page current with Scouts Canada’s latest actions. Yours in Scouting, Andrew Price Executive Commissioner and CEO Tim Welch National Commissioner Annabelle Loder National Youth Commissioner
